KOIN Channel 6 (CBS Portland, OR): Newsroom 6 late edition, Wednesday, October 19, 1983

This is something only WRAL-TV CAN do. I'll be watching it once its available. WRAL looks as the increasing deserts of local news across North Carolina which looks like the rest of the country as well in a new half-hour doc. https://tvnewscheck.com/journalism/article/wral-documentary-examines-north-carolinas-shrinking-local-newsrooms/

Al Roker stopped by his old stomping grounds at WKYC Cleveland today. Considering his personality, it went as well as you expected.

Nobody wondered.

Unless a white knight steps in, WSRE is still slated to lose PBS programming on June 30th. As far as I know, the WSRE foundation is still fighting for independence from Pensacola State College, who owns WSRE-TV itself. They could realistically resurrect WSRE's PBS programming on another channel if they had the ability to do so. Another possibility could be Florida State University stepping in to run/buy WSRE and relay the programming from Tallahassee's WFSU that's repeated on WFSG in Panama City. That station only reaches to Fort Walton Beach, while WSRE picks up coverage from there all the way into Mobile with their transmitter located near the others in Baldwin County Alabama between Mobile and Pensacola.

FOX 11 finally has their worthy replacement for Elex Michaelson to work alongside Christine.

In case you wondered how Glen leaned politically.

After 45 years at WBNS 10TV Columbus, longtime sports director Dom Tiberi is stepping down from full-time work. However, he will remain with WBNS 10TV as a part-time contributor to cover Ohio State sports starting in the Fall.

Canada CBC is launching another FAST channel, this time called CBC Docs, this fall. To make way for that, the documentary channel will cease to exist and sign off for good on August 31st. https://broadcastdialogue.com/cbc-to-double-down-on-documentary-storytelling-with-new-fast-channel/

Hoping it’s evenings. Watching Christine and Marla respectively anchor the 5pm and 6pm solo is awful. Christine is great and an LA icon and would pair well with Glen.

Looking at his social media since he was let go by KTLA, he seems like he'd feel more at home somewhere like Newsmax...

After nearly four years, this is Kirstin O'Connor's last week on KXLY's airwaves. It also sounds like she's done with TV news after 14 years in the business. https://www.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1443001060966341&id=100057693836031

The Ever-Evolving Gray Graphics Situation...Thread

KAKE uses the First Alert moniker -
To be fair, it doesn't seem like too much talent is being shuffled here. Pre-9am assignments appear to be unchanged, though some were off today. Chicago Now ending doesn't really move the needle, and Tia and Anita simply traded Chicago Report and GDC at 9. Unclear if Scafidi is permanent at 11am, but Sylvia was gone so long and Terrence has now been there for months, so there's continuity there.
-
KTVQ, the flagship station of the Montana Television Network (MTN) also seems to be close to rolling out the new look too as evidenced by their new video thumbnails.
-
Former KTLA anchor Glen Walker has been hired by FOX 11 and on his Instagram page, there is a picture of him right in front of the FOX Television Center on Bundy Drive in West LA. He will most likely be on in the evenings, but we shall see what happens.

I’m starting to think KSHB is close if not on deck. They are showing more of the updated package on newscast outros and talent promos. YouTube thumbnails also seems to have the updated look… fool me once….

Yeah... I'm not sure what they're trying to accomplish here with all these changes. Having better structured blocks (i.e... Chicago's Morning News: 4:30-9A, Good Day Chicago: 9-11A, The Loop: 11A-1P) is a plus (I guess). But, they can't keep blowing things up every couple of months without alienating the few viewers they have.

I don't remember seeing a sponsor, but I'll watch for one the next time the ad plays.

UPDATE (again) With Elyse now on the main shows on WBBH, its Christy Soto taking over Elyse's 6:00 and 11:00pm weeknight gigs on WZVN. Christy will still be on at 4:00pm on WBBH. https://www.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1419216390012159&id=100057714354916

Interesting that KWCH still uses non-standard weather branding. -
I tuned in to WFLD on my portable TV this morning and it seems that FOX 32 debuted "Chicago's Morning News" for the morning newscasts but moved Good Day Chicago to the 9:00am slot, and debuted the two hour program called "The Loop" at 11:00am.
