They've been trying to move WJW back to UHF going back to LocalTV....I could see this as a move to increase cap space if it prevails.... Weigel will probably take back their subchannels, and what's left could all end up on WBNX's frequency. The Sinclair diginets will probably get sent packing as well. It does not unless the WJW facility were to be sold.

mrschimpf 2287
Lately TVNewsCheck's TV station rundown has been lousy with run-for-fun stations and godcaster deals, but Nexstar made a move in Myrtle Beach, grabbing WMBE-LD for $300k from spectrum speccer Lowcountry 34; it's certainly not for their current VHF 5 signal to pair with WBTW (VHF 13), nor for their irrelevant AceTV affiliation...but they do have a UHF 22 CP, so either it'll be an in-market WBTW translator or WPDE's going to have to find something else for 15.2 soon besides the CW unless they weren't covered by Sinclair's master agreement. Megatron81 225
FOX56 in Lexington viewers were mad that they didn't air Ohio ST. VS IU game for high school basketball couldn't they have put those high school basketball games on a subchannel. That would've been the smart move than putting it on the main channel and not airing Ohio ST. VS IU. You blew it Nexstar.

These kind of pre-emptions are bad news these days. We don’t have complete numbers yet, but several sources emailed to say cuts were happening. Nexstar is labeling the cuts as a “Reduction in force.” A source at Nexstar’s WMBB (Panama City) says that two people in digital were cut and a handful In production are expected to lose their jobs at a later date. One source at Nexstar’s WEHT (Evansville) says that they fired the Creative Services Director today and are making cuts across creative services at the station. “I’ve heard the responsibilities of that department will now move to news and sales,” said one station insider. Another source tells FTVLive that cuts are happening from the corporate level all the way down to stations. The source says the cuts will be profound, adding, “Not entire departments like Tegna, but a clear preparation for a rough next year.” Nexstar claims that the cuts will be around 2% of the workforce. A Nexstar suit tells FTVLive that they believe when it’s all done, it will be higher than the figure they are saying. FTVLive will continue to follow the story, which is becoming all too familiar in TV news. Looks like they are cutting positions in Marketing, Sales and Production. NowBergen 619
Nexstar is threatening to pull channels off of Optimum. The listed cities include NY (which would be WPIX). Thing is, I thought they don't own it, Mission does. So much for their claim. I believe it is on DirecTV still while other Mission stations have been off for a year or so now. Definitely some fancy footwork going on here.

I am struggling to track down where this is written into law or code, but I believe there is some language (or, more accurately, lack of language and failure to anticipate these circumstances) in retransmission law that allows any owner, in this case, Mission to assign a station's retransmission negotiations and rights to a third party, provided that third party does not own a TV station in the same market. That's why WPIX is covered under Nexstar's retransmission agreements with MVPDs.

Yet they didn't in other markets like in Providence where Nester's CBS is still on DirecTV, but Missions FOX and CW stations are not? This is one big sham. Also, the L3 ribbon does not align with the Local 33 logo bug. The Louisiana First News branding feels very Gray Television. NowBergen 619
Altice USA has written to the FCC that the inclusion of Mission "owned" WPIX in the retransmission fight violates the FCC order. Considering most Mission "owned" stations are not included (and Nexstar owned stations are not off the air in the Mission - DirecTV fight) this is true. https://www.policyband.com/p/dc-memo-altice-usa-accuses-nexstar?utm_source=post-email-title#038;publication_id=2219351&post_id=154759128&utm_campaign=email-post-title&isFreemail=true&r=192djc&triedRedirect=true&utm_medium=email

Methinks Nexstar wants that shot that way so it shows off all of their branding in one shot. But the "only one person in the studio" could ring true as well.
