And of course Kathie Lee Gifford returned to honor Hoda in the fourth hour, where she hosted originally before Jenna Bush Hager. Jenna does a nice job, but I still think I enjoyed the original pairing of KLG and Hoda the best. I kind of thought they might have Tom Llamas take over for Hoda on Today but perhaps they are saving him for when Lester retires from Nightly News. I wonder if he or someone else will show up as a supporting 3rd host as Craig Melvin has done previously.

No way he left his gig at ABC to not eventually get the Nightly News chair.

But everything points to Tom Llamas being Lester's replacement.
tylerSC 58
And I guess it is still too scandalized to consider bringing back Matt Lauer, and it probably would cause backlash and a PR issue. Which does beg the question, reminiscent of his famous old segment, "Where is Matt Lauer?" Although it would nice to see Katie and Meredith make some return appearances. They sometimes show up now and then, and I believe are still in good standing. And maybe have KLG guest host with Jenna sometimes, but she has apparently moved on to personal projects in Tennessee. Craig Melvin is a solid choice, and a guess they decided to leave Willie Geist on Sundays and MSNBC. But will definitely miss Hoda and her positive attitude and pleasant demeanor. JTT 80
I agree that they should bring back personalities that are still in good standing with the network & wouldn't cause that much of a negative impact for the show. I think it may help with the ratings with their contributions in reporting on certain topics. It doesn't have to be just for today show, but other network news programs as well. Katie Couric, Meredith Vieira, Tom Brokaw, & Harry Smith are some examples. These & other former personalities could make appearances on a regular basis or during sweeps reporting on current news events of the day.

Given what Comcast is trying to conjure together with SpinCo, my guess will be they will be limiting as much crossover between The Network and the companies being spun off as much as possible this year unless it's something that has been previously in action. TVNewsJunkie15 66
Tom Brokaw has been ill and battling cancer, and Meredith just lost her husband. As for Katie, she left the TODAY Show before Hoda became even the 4th-hour co-host in 2007. While they had been colleagues before that at NBC (she filled in for Ann occasionally), I'm not sure how much of a relationship they had. But do former co-anchors come back to bid and a departing one? I don't recall any making an appearance on Katie's last day. They probably don't have quite the budget they once had, then factoring in Ann and Matt's departures. Also, at the beginning of 2022, many COVID restrictions were still in place. Maybe not like Ann, but definitely compared to Katie.
TVLurker 181
to whoever saying Kota's goodbye was low-key and bad. I've watched Today when Ann left, she was backstabbed and betrayed during the end of the second hour and everybody defended Matt Lauer. The tears in her eyes compared to the lack of empathy by her fellow workers showed that whoever was in charge of the Today show at the time did not give a shit. They cared only about the ratings. Matt Lauer is persona non grata at NBC. He will never be allowed back on "Today" in person, even if it's a one-off appearance to wish a former co-worker well. NBC would sooner bring back J. Fred Muggs (kids, ask your grandparents) than Lauer. As for where Matt Lauer is now? Probably still laying low in the NYC area.

He will never be allowed back on the show at any cost, which is sad, but it is all his doing, and he has himself to blame. Matt lives in the Hamptons full-time and has a new girlfriend (good luck to her). He has so much money that he doesn't need to work for the rest of his life. He occasionally attends social gatherings that other TODAY Shows and former hosts sometimes attend. The year before, he attended the wedding of a TODAY Show producer where T.J Holmes & Amy Robach (Two people who will never likely be allowed back at ABC so they can relate), Savannah, Hoda, Al, and Katie were also in attendance. To have been a fly on the wall at that party! Edited January 14 by TVNewsJunkie15
