I'll be curious to see if this benefits KLKN at all. As it is, there were technically two ABC affiliates in the same market and KLKN/NTV ended up competing with each other.

KLKN was already cut down as much as it could under Citadel and its sister stations are literally holding up a company that's waiting for a deal to prop them up after Tegna flamed out. What viewers there are left either will move to 10/11 or to News Channel Nebraska; at this point the only difference between KLKN and NTV is 'can you watch it or not' and if you get both, 'which one has the better schedule', or 'I just watch for ABC shows, whatever else they have I don't care about'.

KLKN isn’t even an option for some in Western parts of the market and I doubt they will try to expand their coverage area to capture a smaller, rural audience. Gray is the big winner here as they control the only other options. Tri-cities based Local 4 (NBC) will likely pick up most of the viewers. They’ve picked up some former NTV on-air personalities in the past and likely would have again if Gray weren’t cutting so much. Lincoln based 1011(CBS) will pick up the rest.

After watching a newscast of WKEF, this anchorless format is just awful.  The constant "New Tonight/New Deatils/Etc" titelcards & music between each story is annoying as hell... And listening to someone record the 30 second story in  an echoed room is just tacky.  2 thumbs way down... At least Scrippscasts have 25% personality vs. 0%

I have to wonder if Sinclair has been building up to this LONG before it was a reality.  Newscasts have become more video & graphically oriented.  Talent intros have been systematically eliminated.  It just seemed like newscasts just appeared on the air like they came back from a break.  You don't know if something is live or not....the list goes on and on.

It doesn't take much to set up a camera shot somewhere, so these shows are becoming so mundane, someone with little to no experience could direct a show just by hot-punching the right buttons on a switcher.

My how Clancy Burke's former station has fallen.

If they're gonna have that title card after EVERY story at least remove the darn sound effect. We don't need to hear it every 45 seconds lol.

Looks like they still have anchors in the morning, I wonder if or when that goes away totally.

Unsaid: all five clearances come at the cost of TheGrio.TV. In two markets the move is a lateral or downgrade (LA and Chicago) from lower-major-number Nexstar stations. It's an upgrade in New York (WRNN) and Atlanta (WUPA). And they had no clearance in Phoenix.

As of today, KUNP La Grande/Portland is no longer Univision. It is now KUNP Portland, an English-language station that is the new flagship home of the Portland Trail Blazers. Not only that, countless repeats of The National News Desk are in, as are some of KATU's local (mainly AM Northwest and Afternoon Live) and syndicated programs, as well as simulcasts of their weekday 4, 5, 6, 11 p.m., and all weekend newscasts.

Two new newscasts are coming in on weekdays only, which creates a great excuse to invite the ARC brand to Rose City. Therefore, ARC Portland begins on Friday on KUNP from 7:00-9:00 a.m. and 10:00-10:30 p.m. with ARC Portland Sports at 10:30 p.m. (according to TV Passport).

So in a month, WSYX has lost its anchors and The bench is not that deep for WSYX either. Yikes we are heading back to the revolving door of the early 2000's at WSYX!

Could she pull a Yolanda Harris or Jerry Martz and end up at 10TV?

But as long as they keep ramming the Buckeyes down the viewer's throats, they'll be fine.  This is Sinclair's crown jewel thanks to the fortunes of the rest of the market.

NBC 4 has some hope but 10TV has sadly past the point of no return.

Starting next year, ESPN is sharing the National Championship Game with the network, so that should help.

I just don't understand launching an entire new station like this when KUNP would be better served providing eastern Oregon a KATU satellite and just pushing the Blazers to an upgraded 2.2 TBD subchannel (they do have translators on the same stick but it's baffling they just never did anything with it outside Univision in the digital age).

Without the NBA, there's literally no purpose to this station without (and it's sad to type this) a MyNet affiliation at the very least outside continuing Sinclair's bizarre mission to denigrate Portland's very existence through their local and national newscasts, and three hours of advertorial programming in a row during the day? You might as well just offer three hours to Les Schwab, because those folks will be the only ones watching it captivly in the waiting room (and thanking Steve Jobs for the iPhone to avoid being stuck watching it).

I think the issue is most likely cable carriage and placement. The Trail Blazers probably want their flagship station to ensure games are as visible as possible.

2.2 isn’t even TBD anymore, it’s a full-power KUNP simulcast, filling in coverage gaps in areas that can’t receive the LPTV translator on virtual channel 47. (TBD’s been moved to KUNP-DT4.)

That door been revolving for years even before the early 2000s.

Good luck in your next chapter Stacia

Stacia is headed for WKYC Channel 3 in Cleveland as Statehouse reporter.

WKYC also welcomes Stacia Naquin to the 3News Team as our Columbus Statehouse reporter. Stacia is an Emmy and Murrow award-winning reporter and anchor who has spent the last eight years at WSYX in Columbus. Welcome Stacia!”

That's one way to sit out a non-compete while still working and not having to move, considering the WBNS/WKYC common ownership.

They also renewed their NBC affiliations, and yes, WTWC continues to carry the network.

Once the subchannel affiliation rule is revoked (allowing a station to take another network on a .2), some of these could be toast, as there are more capable stations in these markets that can serve their area better than Sinclair.

Assuming it's actually revoked under a Republican-controlled FCC.

This rule only involves the bigger markets, right? Because there are already smaller markets that have major affiliations on their .2s.
