  1. I think this COVID mess is far from over, and the way it's been handled by the government at ALL levels, (and the general population) a second wave is a certainty. That would mean more cases, deaths, and all of the economic calamity from the government trying to control it. Financially, if the lockdowns happen again, many companies are going to be in deep trouble, and we could see more cuts, layoffs, furloughs, and maybe a bankruptcy or two in the media sector. Companies like Meredith are going to have to decide if they have to sell off their PROFITABLE assets for a short-term surge, or if they need to dump the money-losing ones and go pure-play.

  2. Oh the Speculatron entry HAD Tribune kept WGNX and still taken WPCH off of Time Warner's hands....can someone say "SuperStation"? What's taking Gray so long to put the Meredith group out of it's misery? It's one of the only almost perfect mergers left!!!!

  4. And they wonder why there hurting in the ratings, my station CBS Station in my hometown of Raleigh WNCN has had this problem when the anchors left it was on there own volition or new job offer in a market. This team at WGCL can't even keep a news team full on-air for 3 years Mike Dundon ( Whose used to work in my market Raleigh was great until he left, I miss him because I was too young to remember him) He's a great anchor. Jonathan Carlson (ironically, also worked in my hometown of Raleigh WNCN when it was NBC so this is before 2016, he left in 2013 for WXYZ the ABC affilate in Detroit) he's a very tough anchor and investigative reporter. I don't get it why WGCL has constant cuts it like they can't get there act together in talent. That had a nationally accalamed news anchor Thomas Roberts they let him go, they had a star Sharon Reed (who stood up to a racist on-air on s newscast for calling her the "N" word) they let her go I don't get it. I'd be surprised if Rick Falbuam and Shon Gables last 14 months. The only reporter is remember leaving on the only volition was Jaclyn Roselyn for left for Iraq with her husband and was expecting her first child. I don't get WGCL. No wonder why there CBS Weakest affilate ratings why.

  5. Ad-supported media is getting hammered across the board. Merging into a larger entity with the same vulnerabilities isn't going to fix that problem.

  6. Yet another reason Meredith needs to be bought out of its misery. This station has been cursed ever since Tribune traded them off and WGNX became WGCL.

  7. Judging from this promo, it was in May of 1987 when KOVR debuted Earwitness News: Don't think theres much or any of KGTV from this era: This KOA-TV newscast was also among Pannoni's uploads today: As well as KDKA's coverage of the Challenger explosion:

  8. The "select people" is prioritizing who will be let back in the building first. Departments such as sales wouldn't be as important as allowing anchors or meteorologists or technical staff back in building first. The "never going to let some people back in" applies more to possibly allowing (emphasizing that) some people at a later date to permanently work from home. Should this happen would these people be forced to permanently stay home and work? Well, I can't see how that could be possible as for some having a physical office space is much more practical.

  9. It wasn't funny when it was a fake on YouTube, and it's not funny now. Reporters are trying to do their jobs, and creeps like this make it that much harder for them. Hopefully he's found and charged seven different ways to Sunday. Do these people not realize they're on tape?!

  10. Not just Sinclair's legal team, but also the FCC's compliance officer who is tasked with keeping Sinclair in check. That, I imagine, will be the bigger obstacle than Sinclair's own attorneys.

  11. Tegna CEO Dave Lougee released a 21 minute video to employees discussing the status of their COVID operations and answer employee questions. Personnel will be allowed back in building on a market-by-market basis, and even then only for select people. He doesn't foresee any future furloughs or change to employee benefits. He also hinted that some people may be allowed to work from home permanently, but that wouldn't be decided until a much later undetermined date. Give Tegna slack for what you want, but they have done an excellent job being transparent with their employees about what the company's philosophy and approach to this crisis is. That's certainly a lot more than some other companies have done or would ever do.

  13. It seemed, from our control room, to happen pretty quick. I always watch for the countdown on CBS Net as we roll copyright, but they were still in black. About 5 seconds to network, they started the promo loop. We received the "technical difficulties" wire from CBS around 5:32 central time, so I'm assuming they were caught off guard by the situation. In their defense, you can have 100 backup plans, but if you don't have the time to institute them, then you (and your entire network) are SOL. The only saving grace was CBSN, but the fact that it wasn't live becomes a separate issue.

  18. Meanwhile in Atlanta, WGCL cuts four. Weekend anchor/reporter Mike Dunston out. Investigative reporter Jonathan Carlson ("The CBS46 Bulldog") out. Reporter Daniel Wilkerson out.
