I am still shocked and saddened by the passing of Sam Rubin. As Frank Buckley said, Sam was KTLA.
He had a genuine quality every time he was on air. I admired how he would call as he saw it, even at the risk of getting in trouble. If anything, I thought he gave the best insider perspective of the television news business by reporting on the comings and goings at rival stations.
I remembered this particular story that he shared on his Facebook page about the time KABC's GM squashed his live interview with Regis and Kelly on KTLA's air. Nobody did more to lift up the curtain on the news business, and it seemed that he genuinely felt that the viewers deserved transparency when it comes to the people they invited into their homes regularly.
On a personal note, I had the honor to meet him briefly at the LA Festival of Books at the KTLA booth and get a personalized autograph that I will cherish forever. I'm thankful I got to shake his hand and thank him for brightening up my mornings.
RIP Sam.

It is. A guess, thinking it through, they wanted that to launch with the full treatment, for lack of a better word. Put the new stuff in place with the changing of the opens?
It’s not the cheapest route, but maybe that’s just how things aligned. Won’t make much of a difference to most viewers, so no big deal either way.
That can make sense.

Fall opening sequence for the news: check.
New voice doing the opening: check. (No idea who, don't pay that close attention to who's who in that world.)
The one thing I find most surprising is that they had Charlie Van Dyke record an intro for the new 10am show that debuted a few weeks ago.

Over the past few months, I noticed KYW-TV phasing out "Eyewitness News" in favor of "CBS News Philadelphia". It was very gradual, but now it seems like the Eyewitness News name is completely gone after nearly 60 years. The news opens I saw last week said "This is CBS News Philadelphia". As recently as last month, the news desk still said "Eyewitness News".

On the noon show, it's been Alyana Gomez co-anchoring with Sarah Bloomquist yesterday and today. No indication of whether this is a tryout like they've been doing on Saturday mornings or this is the station's permanent arrangement. I believe Sarah has been solo since Brian left to do the 6pm show.
If Alyana is indeed getting an anchor slot, good for her! She does very well filling in. And it would fit in their tradition of an all-female team at noon starting with Lisa Thomas-Laury and Chris Wagner, who then anchored with Robin Garrison, who then anchored with Monica Malpass.
UPDATE: 1/5/23 Jillian Mele co-anchored with Sarah today. Looks like they will be trying people out on the noon show.

Today's anchor line-up:
Noon-Rick solo
4pm-Brian solo
5pm-Rick solo
6pm-Rick solo
Interesting they didn't have them anchor the 4 and 5 together.
I don't think I've ever seen anybody solo anchor the 5pm program. Ever.

Did anybody see the segment on Last Week Tonight with John Oliver "What In God's Name Are They Covering On WCBS News At 11?"

Brian Taff just announced that Sharrie Williams will be his co-anchor at 4pm and 10pm.

Lisa Thomas-Laury has just revealed that she has been off the air for the past several months undergoing a second bone marrow transplant.

When she made her second return from her illness in 2006, she became the primary backup up at 5pm, for Jim Gardner at 6/11pm, and for Rob Jennings on the weekends. I was disappointed to less of her on the air in recent times, but I guess that's because of her health situation. Wishing her the very best!

Wonder if Rick will say that "Sarah's off" on Fridays at noon now.
I really do like Walter and Sarah together, way back to their days filling in on the AM when Monica & Rick took over for Marc Howard & Lisa Thomas-Laury
It's how KTLA utilizes weekend talent 3 days a week for the midday shows. Their weekend morning weather anchor is on Monday and Tuesday, and their weekend evening meteorologist is on Wednesday through Friday.

Ladies and gentlemen, WPVI's Cap Cities style open, before the happy people montages were introduced. This comes from the mid 70s!!

Well, thank goodness Mark is going to be okay. Seems to say he'll be back soon. Wishing Mark, one the originals from the KTLA Morning News still going strong, a speedy recovery.
