  1. WALA has hired Byron Day as an anchor for the station's 5pm show. http://www.tvnewscheck.com/article/112158/anchor-byron-day-joins-wala-mobile-ala Not only is he a Mobile native, but he worked with soon-to-be retiring primary anchor Bob Grip. Methinks this will be his successor. Over at WKRG, Peter Albrecht has been splitting anchoring with market veteran Mel Showers (Peter does the 5, 6:30, and 9pm on the CW; Mel does the 6 &10). I imagine it's a successor plan as well when Mel decides to retire.
  2. ...as well as the same amount of time for Clear Channel / iHeart to finally be teetering on the edge of bankruptcy...
  3. Cristi Jessee has been canned from Meredith's KVVU in Las Vegas after attempting to hire conservative whackjob Laura Loomer....resulting in Meredith spiking the hire and forcing her suspension and departure from the station. https://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2018/2/9/not-your-typical-news-director-fired Read the comments....one is from a guy named "Scott Livingston" who would love to add her to his staff.. We all know who he is and where he works... And hope this is some random dude making a joke instead of the real person trying to reach out....
  4. ... Here's hoping he doesn't end up at a certain company that owns too many stations...
  5. At least KGPE kept a form of their prior logo. Former sister station WTEV (now WJAX) got Cox-ed with this disaster of a logo....
  6. Even the last WBMG logo is a vast improvement! (and it looks like their bastard cousins over in Atlanta ripped them off for their CBS 46 logo several years later!)
  7. It appears that WHLT has all but given up doing any newscasts of their own of ANY kind....and just simulcasting WJTV's with a WHLT bug added to them. They're trying to pass off this as news "from the capital." And of course, WDAM eats their lunch since they're a LOCAL station and have covered the PINE BELT for YEARS...even the Raycom content from around the state sprinkled in (WLOX, WLBT and WMC) mixes better than what WHLT is doing! Hopefully, the Nexstar graphics are coming soon. WIAT 42 CBS WBMG-TV has certainly gone from hell to good and back to hell again. (New Vision saved them and LIN made them terrible again) I'd even take a Nexstar parallelogram over their disaster of a look. (cbs eye) WIAT would be a blessing of a logo. Now if only WKRG would use ANYTHING but that darn Media General music that should have been canned 5 years ago!!!!
  8. Florida wants to make Daylight Saving time year round...and move the counties in Central time over to Eastern like the rest of the state. http://www.wjhg.com/content/news/Bill-to-keep-Florida-on-Daylight-Saving-Time-all-year-moves-forward-470960303.html Panama City would be the only market to have consistency since it's already bisected by the time line; the easternmost counties are in Eastern already. It would get dicey with Tallahassee and Jacksonville since they border Georgia, and wreak havoc in Mobile-Pensacola since WEAR is based in Pensacola and virtually every one else is in Alabama. The result would be when Alabama falls back in the fall, Pensacola would be TWO HOURS ahead of Mobile...and that primetime would start at 9 instead of 8 in the Sunshine State when the rest of the country "falls back".
  9. Big news out of Mobile.... Bob Grip, primary anchor at WALA FOX 10 will be retiring after this year.
  10. Meredith is at it again.... This time its WOW! and everyone's favorite Atlanta stations....CBS 46 Atlanta WGCL and the station formerly known as Superstation WTBS.... https://www.fiercecable.com/cable/wow-battling-meredith-amid-relatively-light-turn-year-retrans-fighting
  11. Wasn't Rudy Kalis canned from his sports position only to be brought back later as a morning anchor? Hopefully the suits have a change of heart, but the damage has been done and even if they gave her a wad of cash, there is no way DK will EVER go back to WSMV.
  12. At least Dan Miller and Bill Hall weren't here to see this mess go down. Rudy Kalis put in his 2 cents as well on his facebook page: Sadly, it's all over. Dan and Bill have passed on and then today the news that Channel 4 has allowed the contract of my dear friend and longtime colleague Demetria Kalodimos to expire. I've always believed that the viewers in our area are the most loyal people I've ever been around. I know they watched me closely, as an outsider, when I came to Nashville some 43 years ago. They don't like change. They like real people. They judge the consistency of character over time and when you're finally able to gain their trust, they give you their hearts. They did with Demetria as well and those hearts, including mine, are broken today. I love and admire DK. She was and is tough as nails as a journalist, determined to find and stand on the truth. Viewers knew that and so did we. And yet, as a friend to so many of us she had a compassionate heart of gold. I know corporations have the right to bring in national consultants and make bottom-line decisions. It's a tough business, but if loyalty and integrity aren't cherished, then we all suffer. Demetria deserved to be looked in the eye and told, "thank you for all that you have done for this station and this community." But believe me, DK is destined to continue to do great things. I can't wait. Goodnight WSMV.
  13. It could be worse....if you were an HOURLY employee forced to sign one. Seems like some companies force their sales or creative staff to do this....
  14. Not a surprise and a very abrupt ending to a storied career in Nashville television. It seems Meredith has a lot of skeletons in the closet regarding HR issues. Being a magazine company catering to primarily females, it seems like this type of discrimination is rampant in order to secure younger and cheaper "eye candy". As soon as her non-compete wraps up, I'm sure she'll be back on Nashville TV again.
  15. I fully expect the creditors to flip the station should they gain control. Every owner in the Cleveland market is in "buy" mode and aside from WJW and maybe WOIO and "WUAB", this station is the perfect opportunity to expand their news product on to....and why WJW would want to buy them to keep that from happening.
  16. Raycom could even pull the old "failed station waiver" or even walk away from WUAB's license and make WBNX their second station. Then again, they ruined WUAB to begin with. It will be interesting to see if Sinclair follows through with WJW. This could be a power play to keep Tegna or Scripps from competing directly with them.
  17. WJW has added Sinclair-owned diginets Comet and Charge! to their .3 and .4 subchannels. Have any of the other soon-to-be Sinclair stations made this move in advance of their eventual takeover?
  18. https://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2017/12/5/taking-it-to-the-net Here's hoping.... The former West Virginia media stations also dumped their Frankly sites in favor of Lakana. I think whoever was responsible for trying to pick out all the CrappyLocalWebsite.com domains either got laid off or their head exploded
  19. I could see Woods using WIYC as a full powered version of their WALE-LD to broadcast their multicasts to a larger audience. WIYC has been pretty worthless ever since the MyNetwork affiliation went away.
  20. ...and KLFY is the first former Media General station to undergo a Nexstar-style makeover! At least they've kept the klfy.com default and former LIN template on their website. But I cringe when the CrappyLocalWebsite.com domains start rolling out...if ever. Since they own Lakana, it will only be a matter of time before it becomes their CMS over WordPress.
  21. And this includes the WSEE feed for Puerto Rico.... Not exactly the best timing, but then again, given the current situation there, few may be able to watch TV in the first place. UPDATE: Lilly has allowed the Puerto Rico & VI stations to continue airing on Dish for now...
  22. Raycom and DirecTV have reached a deal... http://www.tvnewscheck.com/article/107661/raycom-directv-reach-retrans-deal
  23. It looks like Meredith has reached a deal with DirecTV (and UVerse) https://tvanswerman.com/2017/09/22/does-directv-have-a-deal-with-merediths-17-local-stations/ This is the most vague and under-the-radar retransmission squabble yet. Meredith has done a poor job keeping viewers informed from the short notice to the lack of warnings on-air and online. Meanwhile, Raycom is still kicking the can with AT&T. Now they are on good terms until the 27th at 8pm ET. http://www.ourlocalcommitment.com/woio-wuab/ I've seen crawls on both WDAM and WLOX OTA. At least they're making an effort to keep viewers informed.
  24. ...and Meredith is another company that is having issues with AT&T, and by what is being circulated out there, could do the same any second now. As a DirecTV customer who gets one of their stations (WALA), this one came out of the blue. My only notification was reading about it in the trades, the "alert" channel popping up on 10-1, and a brief popup on their website, and other Meredith-owned stations. As of this posting, WALA is still up on DirecTV and there is no mention of any dispute and/or resolution to the matter.
  25. To start things off, AT&T has pulled the American Spirit stations from DirecTV and UVerse. http://www.tvnewscheck.com/article/107537/directv-att-drop-american-spirit-stations
