  1. KGTV's 11am news today (03/10) included a story from Arizona about an abandoned newborn which was "reported by Preston Phillips, reporter"
  2. A new weather personality started today on Good Morning San Diego (KUSI). I did not catch her name but the anchor desk called her Francesca.
  3. Leslie Lopez announced today (12/18) is her last day at KUSI (Ind-9) San Diego. She will be joining the weather team at KABC (ABC-7) Los Angeles. Based on her post in Facebook, it appears that she has a lot of family in the LA area which will make it easier for her to attend family functions.
  4. Plus she moved to Minnesota. That would be one heck of a commute.
  5. I watched about 20 minutes of Tuesdays show and it was still a disaster. I don't know if they have a new crew in the control room as there were constant problems with mikes not being live at the right time (Anne saying out loud, "I can't hear you" into a live mike and then talking to Joe Little at his desk and having his mike go very hot and hers off) New guy Ariel showing a live shot from the flooding road behind Fashion Valley and having no idea where it was or that this is a typical event. (Ariel on set with suit but no tie look though every other male anchor/reporter had a tie on.)
  6. I agree, was only focusing on Natasha since the topic was about her. It also seems that most of these people who have a degree in journalism/communication have forgotton what they were taught in 5th grade English.
  7. Yes, when she reads from a script or prompter, Natasha has done a decent job. When she has to report from the field or the traffic/breaking news adlib she is not strong at all.
  8. The problem with flying Chopper 8 in bad weather is the ceiling is usually too low to legally and safely fly VFR. (The clouds obscuring the hills and mountains around San Diego.
  9. This gives a pretty good outlook of cost of living in and around San Diego http://www.numbeo.com/cost-of-living/city_result.jsp?country=United+States&city=San+Diego%2C+CA
  10. Ashlee is an ASU grad and also was a cheerleader for the Cardinals and has family in Arizona. I think she was smart to depart KGTV and Scripps.
  11. San Diego Union Tribune is reporting the reason Pat Brown left KGTV ABC-10 San Diego. "Although sad to leave, Brown explained that the station was proposing a change in her employment terms that would have increased her duties while reducing important benefits." Pat goes on to say she is staying in San Diego and hope to be back on the air. http://www.utsandiego.com/news/2015/jun/08/toni-atkins-belly-assembly-pat-brown-kgtv-weather/
  12. The stations use a variety of weather software systems which use the data available from the NWS and in some cases other reporting stations can also be used. They all do about the same thing, just how the graphics work seems to be the big difference. What I find ridiculous is the NWS radar systems were all updated to DIGITAL Doppler, yet they continue to show radar "sweeps". Sweeps were part of the old analog systems and don't exist today. Even better is the "5 sweeps" using radar returns from Yuma, San Bernadino, Los Angeles and others that are beyond or at the limits for decent radar images (about 120 miles not including the mountains that block the signal). Yet you can watch "certified meteorologists" continue to use these graphics every day. (Guess it is supposed to make the viewers more comfortable that the information is accurate).
  13. It looks like the management at NBC 7 San Diego decided not to continue their payment to WeatherRate and have lost the "Most Accurate Forecast" banner. KGTV ABC-10 is now boasting that they are the most accurate forecast in San Diego with a number of promos.
  14. Ashley did attend ASU and was a Cardinals cheerleader so it is a return "home" for her. She said she is going to KPHO (CBS-5) which also shares space (and talent) with KTVK (Ind-3), not KSAZ (FOX-10).
  15. Considering how long Pat has been doing weather segments on TV, I was surprised that she never obtained a "degree" in meteorology even from one of the distance learning schools so she could be called a "meteorologist"
  16. KGTV (ABC-San Diego) Military Reporter Bob Lawrence is retiring after 33 years at Channel 10. During this evenings broadcast, Bob is showing some of his favorite clips. This seemed to come up quickly, unlike the month long farewell to another 30+ year veteran Bill Griffith. I wonder if there is a move to clean out the old timers and if so, is Kimberly Hunt next to announce a retirement?
  17. Any word on why KUSI swapped "Good Morning San Diego" hosts? Lisa Remilard was the weekend anchor and is now with David Davis during the week. Brandi Williams was the weekday anchor and is now with Dan Plante on weekends.
  18. Looks like KGTV (ABC-10 San Diego) did a little house cleaning. According to TVJobs.com, Marie Arcega Dunn, Mitch Blocher, Hannah Mullins and (newlywed) Dan Haggerty are all "on the beach".
  19. At the time his contract with KTVK ended, the sale of 3TV was still in progress, so I believe it was a matter of not being able to offer his a new/extension to the contract until a new owner was in place. There has been a lot of speculation about what will happen when CBS-5 moves over to the 3TV building and what programs will stay or be chopped (same deal with the talent). Meredith must have seen the benefit that having Bruce available to cover other stories when the shared unit (aka Chopper 20) was on another assignment and would get twice the benefit as the video and reporting would be available to both 3 and 5.
  20. After 39 years in the business and more than 25 years in the Phoenix area, KTVK reporter Steve Bodinet has retired as of December 31st.
