I’ve always thought that the website rebranding was more of a way to connect the stations’ often glitchy websites to the CBS News website, and in turn drive internet traffic to the national side of things. There has not yet been definitive evidence of dropping local branding wholesale. AFAIK, the only mentions made about dropping local branding were comments on this website, and that was nothing more than speculation. Of course, my theory is also speculation (they could theoretically drop local branding on air and online while keeping it in the sky), so I wouldn’t take this as a sign of anything until we have a better idea of the upcoming new look.

To be honest, I doubt that Paramount and CBS News & Stations would remove the channel numbers from most CBS O&Os' newscast titles.

You think Disney Channel will go away entirely? If so, it would be the end of an era. I know in other countries it's been shut down.

Losing VH1 and TV Land would also stink as they were both very popular for years. MTV2, BET Her and NickMusic were never that popular to begin with.

Hello. Honestly, I doubt that all the Disney Channels across America and Canada would be closed down for good.

This probably explains why WITI or KCPQ hasn't switched weather graphics from their Trib packages; why do it when the Fox Weather package would be coming after a few months anyways?

I thought Fox 6 Milwaukee and Fox 13 Seattle did switch weather graphics.

Zaslav's ego probably wouldn't allow it.

It's supposed to evoke the classic Warner Bros. shield...

    It's almost certainly a placeholder.

Or just rename the merged company as either Warner Discovery or just plain Discovery for that matter?

Now, starting in fall of 2021, the network will be rolling out an updated look.

The circular globe motif, also known as the “dot,” is remaining. The trademark curved, all lowercase letters are also staying put, albeit with some slight modifications.

Most notably, the ascender of the “b” is being shortened slightly and the tips of the “c” are being brought a bit closer together.

ABC is providing guidelines on how to proportion the new globe next to other logos: it should be at least 60% of the height of other elements in the logo design.

In the case of circular logos, such as the iconic “Circle 7” logo used by ABC owned stations in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and San Francisco, that increases to 75%, presumably to prevent the two shapes from competing against each other visually.

All of these applications will likely be updated in network level graphics, though it may take more time for stations to get fully up to date, especially for livery and items such as mic flags that can be pricey to replace.

Other sources tell NewscastStudio that a new graphics package is in the works for some or most ABC owned stations in major markets, though there’s no immediate word on when that may debut.

To be honest, I love the new ABC Circle logo.

It's a cue they took from the 20th Century Fox logo itself.

Well, I am glad that Disney is keeping the 20th Century brand and legacy alive for centuries to come. I wish Disney would have merged 20th and Touchstone Pictures into--get this--20th Century Touchstone.

If it can be executed from DC (which is the case), then there's no reason to go back to the affiliates. I think it comes down to what are the future plans with CBSN and to a larger extent CBS News.

If the CBS Weekend News does indeed originate permanently from the DC newsroom, then Major Garrett may become the new permanent anchor of the Weekend News. Just saying.

Nice. Yet, I still hope someone from Oklahoma's Own News 9, KWTV in Oklahoma City would step in. Fingers crossed.

Fascinating. I still hope Seattle's KIRO 7 would be next to have one of its anchors step in. Likewise, Oklahoma's Own News 9, KWTV in my beautiful native Oklahoma City. Fingers crossed.

SEPTEMBER 9, 1985 - The Debut of the NEW and IMPROVED NBC News, Starting with Nightly News with Tom Brokaw. It had the Statue of Liberty opening and closing. It had the anchor desk with newsroom in the background. That was where Brokaw delivered the day's news, while the working behind-the-scenes crew was seen in the background. And, of course, this was also the WORLD PREMIERE of the longest-running theme music in the history of NBC News. The start of something badass that lasted 35 years. I'm talking about The Mission Theme from NBC News by John Williams. The music is still going strong today with brothaman Lester Holt at the helm (Holt the first African-American to be sole anchor of a network evening newscast). What a first night it was for NBC News.

Indeed it was. "The Mission" introduced me to the legendary John Williams.

Meh, that was 6 years ago. It's a very good theme that replaced a great theme.

Oh, right. Well, I do love ABC's current "Breaking News" theme the same way I love the one from 1991.

Yeah, the last 4 themes for ABC (GMA, Nightline, 2018 Election, and This Week) have been misses, too reliant on percussion, yet quiet and lacking punch. It must be at the direction of the network, but DreamArtists Studios used to put out much better work for them.

    And the "Breaking News" theme?

The TXA21 (KTXA - CBS 11 Sister Station) branding is no more... As of today, TXA21 is now Texas 21.

Wow! That new logo reminds me of the Phillips 66 logo.

  15. Or, have watched any NBC News Special Report since "The Mission/The Pulse of Events" began being used by the network 33 years ago, depending on how old he is.

At first I thought "The Pulse of Events" was used for Meet the Press a decade or so before it doubled as a breaking news music theme.
