  1. WGCL is returning to a Weekend Morning Newscast again... Details unknown at this time. also they are adding ANOTHER Met./Morning Reporter. the anchor will come from the current pool of talent at the station. Also either Jim Kosek or Jim Losnicka are fixing to leave. Hoping it is Kosek that is leaving, his presentation just doesn't fit this station and it's direction anymore. Jim Losnicka would be a better choice. a great broadcaster and very knowledgeable about the technical terms of the weather. Time will tell over on 14th st.

EDIT: Jim Loznicka has left WGCL as of this week. Kosek remains... for now. also Meghan Packer's name has been floated around as a Weekend Morning Anchor. nothing known about who will do weather as of now

  2. That is true. But there are also some longtimers at other stations in South Florida

WTVJ: Trina Robinson and Jackie Nespral

WPLG: Todd Tongen (Was there in 1989 and hired off on Ann Bishop's Suggestion) and also Kristi Kreuger (guess you could put hmmm Laurie Jennings to the list who came back after WSVN)

WFOR: Poor Poor Elliot and I think Al Sunhine. Maybe Barry

Add Willard Shepard and Ari Odzer, both came in the early 90's for WTVJ

  4. In other words, the Macon market is no good unless if your at 13WMAZ.

Pretty Much, WMAZ came in 1953. WMGT (WCWB Intially) came on in 1968. WGXA in 1982. WPGA in 1995

  5. It's a tough market to work in if you are not at WMAZ, since that station blows all the others out of the water.

Cause WMAZ has the foundation and Experience and the Books to do it right. WGXA had a Crappy owner in Frontier who put a new set in 2010 but not new cameras and Live trucks and control room upgrade. Sinclair owns them now and obviously is not in any hurry to upgrade WGXA to HD news. Poor WMGT had no news from 1992 - 2004 and then didn't go HD till 2 yrs. ago with a vitural set (mind you all of Morris Comm. is going to this model) even then, they have always been short staffed and way under experienced compared to WMAZ and even WGXA.

Dont even start on the Rathole Stinkpot of WPGA. Lowell Register is the Definition of CHEAP

  6. apparently things are worse for WMGT then i thought,

First Morning Met. Marco LA Manno left 2 months ago to go to SNN in Sarasota, FL Kristen Kennedy is his replacement

then Chief Meteorologist Chris Simmons Left 2 Weeks ago, No Replacement has been named

then just last week, 2 days before Taylor Terrell's death, Weekend Anchor/Reporter Alexa Rodriguez is leaving for a station in Greenville-spartanburg SC in August. (WHNS is that Station)

Plus their Longtime Chief Photographer Robert Hughes Died last month

    http://www.41nbc.com/2016/06/27/longtime-41nbc-chief-photographer-dies/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=facebook

Tough Times indeed for WMGT. plus right now, they are WAY Under Staffed then Most Small Market Stations Right now. 3 News Anchors (1 Morning and 2 Evening), 1 Full Time Reporter, 2 Mets. (Mornings and Weekends) and 1 Sports Anchor/Reporter

  7. From evening anchor at an O&O in NYC to anchor of the 4th place morning show in Atlanta? Ouch!

I heard something about her coming here, but maybe as Keith Whitney's replacement on Weekend Evenings, they still have Blayne Alexander working Weekend Mornings and Evenings right now, time will tell, maybe putting shiba on mornings till Brenda Wood does retire and move shiba to evenings, just a thought

  8. just noticed that WSB-TV Weekend Anchor Matt Belanger has left WSB,

Richard Elliot and Dave Huddleston has Filled in alongside Wendy Corona, Other Possibilities include Former Weekend Anchor Tom Regan and Investigative Reporter Richard Belcher

also of note, WXIA has note announced Keith Whitney's Weekend Anchor Replacement, Weekend Morning Anchor Blayne Alexander has been anchoring mornings and evenings, Jeff Hullinger, now the Primary Weeknight Anchor has been alternating Weekend Mornings and Evenings with Blayne though, other Anchor choices include Valerie Hoff or possibly Ryan Kurger posibly

  9. This is Albany, GA....and a former Barrington station. Not helping matters is the 800 pound gorilla WALB with both NBC and ABC; as well as WCTV's semi-satellite WSWG as competition.

I'm not even sure they're 16x9. Just up the road in Macon is WGXA which we all know is pumping out beautiful 4x3 SD!

WFXL is 16:9 SD, done under barrington

  10. At this rate, I wouldn't be surprised if WFAA or even any of TEGNA's three flagships are next

    They've already hit WXIA,

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution states that WXIA's weekend anchor Keith Whitney(1993), educational reporter Donna Lowry(1986) and reporter Kevin Rowson(1994) are taking Tegna buyouts.

It also stated that four photographers at the station are also taking buyouts.

Also note that Business/Consumer Editor/Help Desk Reporter Bill Liss was also eligible but Declined and will Continue to work for 11Alive for atleast to near future.

Jon Shriek(1979), Jerry Carnes(1986), Brenda Wood(1997), Chris Holcomb(1990), Jaye Watson(1999), Valerie Hoff (1999) and Jennifer Leslie (1998) were not offered but were eligible for the Buyout

  11. It looks like some more folks are taking that buyout.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution states that WXIA's weekend anchor Keith Whitley, educational reporter Donna Lowry and reporter Kevin Rowson are taking Tegna buyouts.

It also stated that four photographers at the station are also taking buyouts.

Wonder who will Anchor Weekend Evenings now... Valerie Hoff is the 1st name that comes to mind, maybe Blayne or even Jeremy Campbell or could possibly somebody outta left field or a new hire like WSB and WGCL always seem to do?

Also they know if they offered Jon Shriek the buyout and he took it, Doug Richards would be right behind him probably, Richards came in 2007 after 21 yrs. at WAGA Fox5

Also note that Business/Consumer Editor/Help Desk Reporter Bill Liss was also eligible but Declined and will Continue to work for 11Alive for atleast to near future.

  12. It's not. It was out last year. I see you got it from the "On the Move 3/22/16" post. The "On the Move" post tend to sometimes have months old info on there, similar to FTVLive's "Changing Jobs". They must be press releases that are send out by agents on a quarterly basis.

so when is mike on now? Mornings, Night, Weekens?

  13. Just goes to show that even the worst branding in the world becomes acceptable and loved over time.

"Alive" is so 1970's Storer...and even then it sucked....but if you have people that love it, then leave it alone.

actually, it was a combined comm. thing, they got bought by ganett in 1980

  14. I remember when WGNX was an Indy outlet had a 7:30PM newscast, before switching to CBS. By 96 the 7pm news move to 6PM. They did see an influx with CBS' primetime ratings, but I agree Meredith did do a lot more with investing in a new building, resources and more newscast.

I don't see CBS46 moving Y&R unless CBS said so, because Y&R ratings at 3PM wins it time slot & beating WSB-TV. When your in last place you have to do some bold moves, and Y&R is a good lead-in to the 4PM news.

I think another bold move for CBS46 would be to take Wheel/Jeopardy from WXIA.

Also wish TEGNA would drop some $$$ on WXIA to be more competitive and maybe it time to drop the 11Alive moniker, but after 40 years would viewers really be upset because it no longer 11Alive? I know around 93/94 viewers were so pissed off about it no longer identify as 11ALIVE. :( :smash:

ok so leave Y&R at 3 but still put ATL Plugged IN at 9 a.m. for an hour and move my 3 p.m. suggestion to 12:30 - 1:30 p.m then

Also CBS 46 Getting Wheel/Jeopardy isn't as far fetched as some think, 11Alive doesn't have the pockets it used to and CBS46 and Mererdith has been doing good in the money department lately. and even thought their ratings are in the tank, 11Alive is to WXIA is ATL as Action News is to WSB or WPVI, Eyewitness News is to WABC or KABC. it's not going away anytime soon

  15. That is a huge problem. But imagine if The 700 Club was gone in favor of more morning news at 9:00am, Atlanta Plugged-In was gone for an expansion of the noon news, Informercials would be gone for maybe The Insider at 1:00 and finally, Inside Edition moving to 7:30 after CBS 46 News at 7:00 (if they do decided to go there because after all, 11Alive no longer does it).

But another problem that I see is that because WGNX joined CBS at a time when WGNX's news department was very small and barely got enough traction, it caused a ratings freefall because then, more and more people were only sticking to WAGA when it became FOX because of continued news in several timeslots. Yes, more watched WSB but more and more switched to WAGA when the switch happened.

In summary... WGNX joined CBS when their news department and ratings were too small. And even if CBS is America's Most-Watched Network, it still hasn't helped WGCL to this day at all. That's my theory but I may be wrong.

Atlanta's Plugged in can work once they get a permanent host, Jennifer Valdez is supposedly to main host but is always out either sick or something else since having 3 kids now... make Kimberly Kennedy the full time host and move this show for an hour at 9 A.M. Put Y&R at 12:30 instead of 3 p.m. and Take one of the Stronger Shows from there Sister Station WPCH 17 (Peachtree TV) and put it at 3 p.m., Problem Solved. Maybe Hot Bench or Crime Watch Daily or even Divorce Court

  16. Some of that not so much true. Prior to the switch WSB & WAGA battle for the top spot, and there were times where WAGA would beat WSB. After the 94 switch starting in 1995 WAGA's ratings had cracks and the ratings fell sharply especially during the early evening news at 5-7pm block. More switched to WXIA when the switch happened and during the 1996 rating book WXIA trailed WAGA and even trump WAGA in early evening news.

Here a ratings snap shot from late news in 95 & 96

    Late News Nov 95

    WSB/2 (ABC) 14.2

    WAGA/5 (FOX) 9.1

    WXIA/11 (NBC) 10.3

    WGNX/46(CBS) 4.0

    Late News Nov96

    WSB/2 (ABC) 11.8

    WAGA/5 (FOX) 8.6

    WXIA/11 (NBC) 9.8

    WGNX/46 (CBS) 4.0

You gotta Remember till early of '99 they only had and 12:00 p.m Weekday and Nightly 11:00 p.m. Newscast When Tribune sold it to Meredith and they invested a lot more than tribune ever did into the station. their old studios where small and cramped then they had their current building built in 2000.

  17. It doesn't matter if 11Alive goes #4 or CBS 46 goes #3, the top 2 will always be WSB at #1 and WAGA at #2. They are just too good for 11Alive or CBS 46 to even pass them.

Honestly i think in some ways CBS 46 is better than even WAGA Fox 5, Mainly in the Mornings and Noon. Solid and Consistent in their Presentation. Good God, Cant even watch GoodDay Atlanta Anymore, SO Disorganized!!! CBS 46's Problem is their Program Lineup is Horrible!! Their Syndication Lineup consists of; The 700 Club at 9:00 A.M. Locally Produced Atlanta Plugged-In at 12:30 p.m. Infomercials from 1:00-1:30 p.m. and Inside Edition and The Insider from 7:00-8:00 p.m.

  18. According to FTVLive, Those voluntary buyouts are companywide.

yeah, 11 Alive is in some trouble RN, plus their ratings are getting worse, CBS 46 News has a Better Product now and as soon as CBS 46 Gets their Syndicate Sch. Straighten out, Bad things are gonna happen for 11 alive going forward

  19. Doesn't suprise me if they do this at all, and to top it off, they still don't have demarco's replacement and ''not confirmed'' Brenda wood is contemplating retirement soon, she has been in the ATL since '88 and in news since '78 and WAAY in Huntsville at least. Ditto for Jeff hullinger, Weeknight Anchor;Sports Director/Anchor who has been at WXIA since 2010 but has been in ATL since '84 also at WAGA and Started in St. Lake City at KSL in the late 70's as well
