They had a small fire in their Studio A over the past weekend. Not sure of the extent of the damage, but I would assume that’s what is making the desk/3x3/horizontal monitor area unusable right now.

Which explains the new video wall in front of the old 9-pack.

The Ocho is probably due for a new Nexstar Corner Set-In-A-Box soon.

  2. It looks like KLAS is either refreshing or replacing their news set.  Morning newscasts and sports segments have been broadcast from Studio B since Monday (?), and evening newscasts are live from the newsroom.

The weather center in Studio A is still being used for WX segments.

Update (9/16):  No new set in the works yet.  Temporary move due to maintenance.  Newscasts resumed from Studio A.

  3. The package seems to have been rushed to air without planning.  The blue-on-blue in the L3 ticker is an eyesore.  Also, the sports scores lack league information and the use of Arial for weather details is appalling.

Agreed: it is a terrible implementation of the KOIN graphics to date.

Looks like WFLA is also dropping MeTV as well. It's going to Hearst's WMOR.

No word from Channel 8 on what will occupy that 8.2 allotment.

I'm surprised Nexstar didn't drop MeTV in Vegas (KLAS).........

It appears it's just the former MG stations that are affected for now.

    Slightly off-topic:

Nexstar is dropping the very popular MeTV from WCMH 4.2? What gives? Or are they going to replace with Antenna TV (which sucks)?

MeTV is moving to WBNS 10.2.

  6. A good indicator a station has zero long-term commitment to a "new" newscast...

    No outside promotion or ads.

    No billboards...

    No Bus ads...

    No outside radio...

    No newspapers...

    No commitment.

I believe Nexstar doesn't use any outside promotion for its news programming, at least from where I live.

  7. *Cough* WUAB's 7:30pm newscast! *cough*

Let's see how many other local newscasts that were blatant political cash grabs get axed, though that one's pretty blatant...

Yep. There wasn't much of a cash grab as commercial breaks consisted of in-house promos and PSAs. Plus it was an eyesore to watch in 16:9 480i.

  8. KLAS-TV Las Vegas has added a half-hour newscast at 3:00 p.m. this past Wednesday. No surprise considering that Las Vegas NOW (now just a half-hour at 3:30 p.m.) has suffered from poor ratings and technical problems from the start.

Its now the third in the market with KVVU still being all alone at 4:00 p.m.

KLAS previously had a 4pm newscast prior to Nexstar mandating the station to replace it with Las Vegas NOW.

  9. And 8NewsNow.com does redirect to there.

8NewsNow.com should be the primary URL (which it once was before the Nexstar acquisition), since "Las Vegas Now" is also the title of the station's pay-to-play lifestyle show.

Heck, I'd even settle for KLASTV.com
