  1. We have a new full image campaign that was just discovered! This time, it's not from one of the Big 4 networks but rather from Univision for the 1991-92 season, coinciding with their 30th anniversary. I know they used the "La Visión de América" slogan during those years. Hell, I even used an ID with that slogan as the intro to my Noticiero Univision compilation. What I didn't know was that it was actually a full-fledged campaign they had back then.

  2. Actually, even some reality shows are gonna be hit by SAG-AFTRA striking since some of the hosts & people in them may be in that union. This will probably mean the networks go to Plan C, "movies, news, & sports"

But I gotta give props to the union for standing with their writer colleagues. The response AMPTP gave to the WGA & SAG-AFTRA is absolutely reprehensible. They literally said they're willing to let the writers lose their homes before taking up their deal. They've already shown their cards & this does nothing but increase the amount of support the unions are getting from the public. Besides, doing this will only end up hurting the studios themselves at the end of the day.

I do have a feeling that this could evolve into something much bigger, especially if the Teamsters decide to strike after the end of this month & both the WGA and SAG-AFTRA hold on. Time will only tell.

  3. X-posting this from the YouTube thread, as it's important info about some classic video uploads that are on there.

Today is the last day before YouTube privatizes all unlisted videos from before 2017 for some type of security update. In all honesty, this is pretty ridiculous of them to do, but I'm not all surprised to see they're doing some shenanigans that will cause some clips to possibly become lost media. Its so infuriating.

Anywho, if you know of any videos you might've seen that are unlisted, what I'd recommend is to save them and have the name of the original uploader somewhere in the file name. That way, if you wanna reupload it, you can credit the person who originally posted it, but got the video privated because of YouTube's update. I wish it didn't come at a very inconvenient time for me, but alas

  4. Welp, today is the final day before YouTube privatizes all unlisted videos from before 2017 for "security reasons" or something like that.

Ugh...I really wish this didn't happen, but I mean, this is YouTube we're talking about, and as we all know, they're not the best at archiving stuff in recent years. None of us know which channels opted out of this update that will impact who sees these videos, but whatever videos you find are unlisted and from before 2017, I recommend you save them and put the original uploader's name somewhere in the file name so if you reupload them, you can credit them for originally posting the video that will become private by YouTube shenanigans

  5. I made a tweet about Sloan's channel being pulled down and tagged the YT Creators account about it. As someone who also has a archival channel, this deeply worries me. I worry even the algorithm could be going after NewsActive3 next. They terminated Sloan's account without any warning yet still has other archival channels like old commercial channels up. Like, this is absolutely insane and makes me worried what this means for archival content on YouTube, especially since I'm pretty sure almost all of them abide by fair use for historical purposes. It's one of the few things holding me back from uploading stuff, along with various other reasons, even though I really want to get back to the swing of things

While I can't speak for Sloan's case, I've made it clear that I never monetize my channel and that will still be the case. However, I will be making some changes. In my next video, I plan on giving credit to the original video uploader in the top right of my videos for 3-5 seconds & add in custom thumbnails, which I have done in the past in the early days of my channel as shown in the picture below (the new ones will be much better-looking than this). If I can't find who uploaded the video, I'll just put "unknown" as a placeholder & make a note in the description if I or someone knows who it is.

In addition, I'll also be uploading my compilations on the Internet Archive (archive.org) alongside YouTube, so even if YouTube does some shenanigans, the compilations will still be available for people to see & I recommend other archivists do the same.

From 12-25-1978, here is an entire broadcast of the CBS Evening News. Be sure you watch at 28:47, because you get to see a WTVF news open using an unknown theme.

The open seems to have inspired TVQ-10 in Brisbane, Australia (back when they were on Channel 0) to make GFX of a background behind their "Eyewitness News" lettering back in the early 80s

  7. Was WESH that cheap in 1986 to where they weren't able to get the "Come Home" package from their own network and instead made their own "Come Home" graphics in-house? I thought those things were free for them. I would expect this in a small market affiliate, not in a mid-sized one like Orlando was at the time.

  8. Well then. Looks like I gotta plan on updating WKBD/WWJ & WTOG's compilation. Never would I thought WTOG would bring back their newscast. This is surprising news.

Looks like TheOpensGuy is a new channel, as the Susquehanna Valley station compilations are the only ones on there.

That being said NESTLEH, you can still do the HLLY market, just consider putting it off until sometime in the near future. When I gave the TVNT user who runs The ID Junkie channel permission to update the existing compilations that were on my channel, I noted that there shouldn't be any dibs-ing on markets if other similar news open comp channels popped up or I started uploading videos again. Essentially, take a "you do you" approach, but if another user does upload compilations from a particular market which you planned on doing, keep that market in your plans... but just give yourself the option of holding off creating your takes until a later date (one to two months, at least).

Alright then. I'll keep that in mind.

Very nice, any other markets do you plan on doing the compilation in markets where ID Junkie has not done the compilations at as of yet?

So far, I'm planning on Rochester (NY) and Grand Rapids.

No, it was full on terminated. It's completely gone now. He would have to start over. But until then, Houston TV material on YT has become as scarce as markets like Ft. Myers or Madison.

I'd completly forgotten that Florida's News Channel was a thing!

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Tr3u_ND1bo

Same can be said for Wichita and his channel being terminated alone may hinder the ability for someone to make news open compilations for that market, especially when considering he had opens when KAKE used The News Image.

  12. I'll be headed to two markets this time around. The first one is a market that is small, yet compilation-worthy and that market is Terre Haute, and I'll be starting off with a rare occurrence, and that is a PBS station having a compilation, and that station is WVUT. As for the second one, it's a wait and see.

  13. I thought this was too complex for me to do, but I've done it. While I'm still working on WVTM, I decided that while it would be delayed for a while, since the only 2018 open on YT is a cold open. WVTM would've been uploaded today, but instead of WVTM, in it's place for today is the modern-day powerhouse that is ABC 33/40 (WBMA-LD/WCFT (WSES)/WJSU (WGWW)) that is next for their compilation.
