Temporary, as in they basically pasted the new logo animation over the end of this season's winter opens. With spring coming up quick, what debuted Tuesday won't last long. No talent faces are coming. Status quo and familiar is the plan. Sorry if my wording suggested otherwise.
Are they switching the animation at the end to what the other channels are using? Aka this...

Two things I have noticed with Action News.
1: There are two different versions of the breaking news and the weather cards. Not sure how they decide when either one are used.
2: They are having serious issues with their bumper music. Throughout all newscasts today, the bumper would play at unusual times, such as in the middle of a report. During the lottery numbers at 11pm, the bumper kept restarting every time they switched to a new states lottery drawing numbers. There were also multiple times where it didn't play when it was supposed to, or it was late.

Ah, yes they do! Didn't realize that! Saw them for the first time yesterday. So cool! I guess we can expect an unveiling of the new package soon. Highly curious as to how they will adopt the Move Closer To Your World music package to it.
They were the third station to get the new weather graphics.

To me it looks like they have a new desk and that's it.

What local TV stations are the most well known nationally? Which stations have a significant dominance in their local market? Off the top of my head, I can think of WGN, WABC, WPVI and WSB. Comment any others you think deserve this title.

When it comes to local newscasts, I've noticed a pattern emerge in most media markets, especially the top 10.
ABC is usually no.1 in the market.
NBC is a close 2nd, though sometimes it surpasses ABC.
But CBS? Almost always in a distant last place.
Is there any reason as to why CBS is so bad?

KABC has a preview of their new graphics with this add. Off topic: I haven't heard of a newscast being on the radio in years.

So 6ABC is getting a new meteorologist next week. I wonder if they will switch over to the new graphics when she starts because the news intros would have to be updated to include her.

The posting for that job was up a while ago, so the timing makes sense. What the plans are for using her is another question. While Cecily is giving the party line answer that they've been down a person since David Murphy left, that's also a bit disingenuous. Insomuch as they don't have two meteorologists on the morning shift with built-in coverage when one is out and just making Matt Pellman cover traffic, they made Matt a permanent part of the morning show, effectively replacing Karen's primary role when she took over for David. Still four bodies. The main difference is Chris and Brittany now cover Karen, while there was almost never an "outside" meteorologist before.
Brittany is, if not officially, clearly effectively full time, on a Wednesday-Sunday schedule. Noon Wednesday-Friday, plus afternoon coverage as needed, and weekend nights for the most part. And for whatever reason, they refuse to throw much more to Chris except the occasional coverage. Is there any compelling reason not to have him do Monday and Tuesday at noon, vs. Adam being in there regularly? But whatever, so be it.
So where does this new person fit in the mix is the question. Is she full time, yet again bypassing Sowers getting a full time role? Is she part-time? Does she do the extra-early morning gig and let Karen sleep in a bit to do the second portion of the morning show + 10 am? Where do they need another body on a regular basis?
It seems like it may be Chris making that decision. He seems to always be with his kids, so I assume he may be a mostly stay at home dad while his wife is working.

To my complete surprise, Action News has a new meteorologist!

I would say they have most of the graphics ready for it ... except for the open.
I really believe they are having trouble matching the style of the collage-style open to the Action News theme. to the graphic look. I still think they will keep the Action News open but will adopt the rest of the package. Some things, you cannot change.

What will probably happen is the usual scenes you see in the intro, followed by the new flying graphics in the new package.

Yeah, I'm very interested in seeing WPVI's integration with the package. I can envision them using just the last few seconds of the cut, which has the signature portion being used for the beginning, and then, maybe they can do a full open during the broadcast that has the theme. "You're Watching 6ABC Action News... With... (while Move Closer To Your World Plays in the background)."
Never in a million years could I see them doing that. What’s likely going to happen is the full theme with the typical scenes of people in the city and the “Action News, Delaware Valley’s leading news program, with…”. The only thing that will change will be the graphic at the end, which will be the new intro that all the stations are adopting.

We've got a new reporter on our hands! Charles Watson. Can't find anything about his past, but here's a video with him. He's so new they don't even have his bio on the site yet.

Has anyone noticed that Jamie Apody has been missing for a few weeks? Wonder what’s going on.

One thing that is not on the horizon is any standardization of ABC O&O graphics.
CBS, NBC and FOX affiliates all have identical design. (I think local news is the poorer for that, especially CBS's rendering its stations to the "CBS News (insert market name here) " generic quality. WABC, KABC, and WLS, to name the three biggest ABC markets, are their own tooling and bear little resemblance to one another in font and design.
KABC and KGO are mostly similar, except for differences in L3 color and a few other details.
KABC by the way is working on the same graphics and set that made a debut in October 2015. That is some kind of record maybe.
It is on the horizon. This whole page is about ABC standardizing graphics amongst its O&O’s. They are just rolling it out very slowly.

They also had a promo in the newscast for the noon newscast. In it, they showed Sarah Bloomquist and John Paul as the anchors, so that probably means John is the permanent second anchor.
-
Here’s the debut of the 10AM newscast! This is really interesting, it seems they are keeping Alyana, Alicia and Nydia all on the desk as regular anchors at the same time! But this makes desk looks really cramped.
Also to note with the intro, for the first time in years, MCTYW is being played in the original key! I am also surprised that they didn’t debut the new graphics today.

So it looks like each station will be able to customize the accent colors. KTRK has red in place of yellow, and the blue looks a bit different. I wonder what they will do for breaking news, as WLS uses the blue with red accent color scheme for that.

Since were now getting a 10AM newscast, who do you think will anchor it? And do we yet to have an actual lineup for noon?

Since the graphics debut? I haven't heard any new ones. Just the same cuts introduced in 2017.
