essentials 0
Steakhouse had filed suit against TV anchor over bill for June party July 23, 2011|By Todd Lighty, Tribune reporter Television news anchor Anna Davlantes and her husband settled a $69,000 tab for their wedding reception Friday, after being told a local steakhouse had filed a lawsuit seeking the money. Carmichael's Chicago Steak House had accused newlyweds Davlantes, a WFLD-Ch. 32 morning co-anchor, and businessman David Gamperl of failing to pay for their June 10 wedding reception. The steakhouse filed suit against the couple in Cook County Circuit Court on Friday for breach of contract and fraud. After the Tribune contacted Davlantes about the lawsuit, she immediately went to the restaurant and took care of the bill. She said she was unaware that two previous checks written to Carmichael's by a family member had not cleared and that she was never contacted by the establishment. "This is the first I've heard there was a problem," she said. The restaurant had been dealing with her husband on the matter and did not have direct contact with her about the bill, Carmichael's attorney Thomas Marszewski said. The couple eloped in May to Paris, where they wed in a 16th century French church. When they returned, they planned a wedding reception at Carmichael's for about 300 people, according to the suit. The lawsuit said Carmichael's closed the entire restaurant for the seven-hour reception, which featured a covered, red-carpet entrance. The menu included mango margaritas, baby lamb chops, seared ahi tuna canape with wasabi cream, and garlic and herb slow-roasted prime rib. The couple also had a castle-shaped bounce house for children attending the event, according to the suit. After a bank confirmed sufficient funds for Davlantes' check late Friday afternoon, Marszewski said he considered the matter resolved and the lawsuit will be dropped.
