Where in the World is Ed Murray?

Well, it may not be a Twilight Zone-type situation, but some here in Oklahoma City have wondered where Ed Murray has been. Murray started as a sports anchr/reporter at CBS affiliate KWTV in 1981, before moving from the sports department to the news department as an anchor/occasional general assignment reporter.

In June of last year, he was moved to the weekend evening newscasts, after about 10 years co-anchoring the station's weekday morning newscast (he was replaced as weekday morning co-anchor by Stan Miller, formerly of KFMB and KUSI in San Diego, and also once worked locally at NBC affiliate KFOR-TV as host of the local version of the now-defunct PM Magazine and as a reporter/photographer at ABC affiliate KOCO); Murray was placed on the weekend beat after Charles Bassett left to take a reporter position at KDAF in Dallas-Fort Worth and Kirsten McIntyre went on maternity leave, after which she eventually was moved to weekday morning reporter/noon fill-in anchor. He was last seen on the station in February, and since he has been absent, there had been a few fill-ins such as weekend morning anchor Jennifer Pierce; Tammy Payne, a KWTV alum, who had previously left broadcasting a decade ago after a stint as anchor at KFOR, began serving as (interim?) weekend evening anchor in May.

Even more peculiar, Murray's profile is still on KWTV's website (link: http://www.news9.com/story/7449794/ed-murray), so we know he wasn't officially fired. Though there has been absolutely no explanation for his seven-month absence from KWTV, and who knows when he will show up on-air again.

Update: Last night, Ed Murray anchored his first newscast in several months for KWTV. Though he anchored both the 6 and 10 p.m. newscasts, the reason for his absence wasn't revealed until the 10 p.m. newscast (mentioned in both half-hours); during the second half-hour, Ed mentioned that his absence was due to an illness (that he did not specify).
