WDBJ NOT #1 at 6 p.m.

For the first time since 1958, WDBJ in Roanoke is not number one in total viewers at 6 p.m. Longtime anchor Keith Humphry retired in May, and their July numbers tumbled a stunning 35 percent. The 6 p.m. newscasts are the most watched in the market.

The GM said the bleed-off was mainly among older viewers. Only a decade ago, the station had more viewers at 6 than their competitors combined. I remember reading somewhere that the station has been struggling in the ad-friendly demos, but there was no breakdown of those numbers in this story.
