NYNews 54 Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 Surprise that WPIX is on with coverage. Marvin Scott is on. They rarely break in with coverage. Which I think has to change if they want to be consider as a credible news source in NY. WNBC has Chuck and Shiba anchoring. Pei-Sze, Katy Tur reporting. WCBS has Don Dahler on. WABC has Diana on. Seems they have the most reporters on air reporting.
kshow 167 Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 I believe WABC with Diana was first to report. Shortly after the trembles, I turned to WABC and they broke in with a 1 minute report.
NYNews 54 Posted August 23, 2011 Author Posted August 23, 2011 Nope. I also turned on the TV after feeling the tremor, WCBS and WNBC were both on first. WABC came in after.
wabceyewitness 827 Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 WABC did indeed break in around 1:59pm, just a few minutes after the ground shook. When I checked, NY1 was the only the other local station live at this time... unless the other stations broke in earlier. Diana Williams assured viewers (myself included) that what they just felt was in fact an earthquake, She tossed back to network programming around 2pm then came back on air a few minutes later after, I assume, WABC quickly coordinated and checked in with their reporters and got them ready to go live. By then, every other station was live.

Exactly I saw the 1:59 PM interruption, then she toss back to soaps.
kshow 167 Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 CBS 2 is now utilizing Mobile 2, and covering different areas of course.
NYNews 54 Posted August 23, 2011 Author Posted August 23, 2011 Jodi is on at WPIX. Surprised about the depth of knowledge Chuck has on earthquakes, on WNBC.
wabceyewitness 827 Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 Jodi is on at WPIX. Surprised about the depth of knowledge Chuck has on earthquakes, on WNBC. Chuck is author of "Afterschock: Earthquake in New York", which was made into a television mini-series in 1999 for CBS.

DMA 135 Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 The bottom part of WCBS's backdrop is navy blue now...did a lightbulb go out or something due to the quake?
Jess 1116 Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 Yes, WABC totally had a lower third on just now that said "Virgina". (Sorry, had to.)
DMA 135 Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 Below is a capture of WCBS's set http://i.imgur.com/ohVOE.jpg
wabceyewitness 827 Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 Both Liz Cho and Diana Williams both began the 4pm and 5pm newscasts by mentioning Eyewitness News was first on the air to tell you about the earthquake. I see a cheesy proof-of-performance promo coming from WABC tomorrow...
