T.L. Hughes 881
Starting this Saturday, October 1, NBC O&O WTVJ in Miami is adding a total of four hours of news on weekend mornings. The weekend editions of "NBC Miami Today" will air bookending the Saturday edition of "Today" on Saturdays from 6-7 and 9-10 a.m. and for two hour straight on Sundays from 6-8 a.m. with the Sunday edition of "Today" following it. The newscasts will be anchored by Sharon Lawson, and Jennifer Reeves (nee Gray) will return to the station as the station's weekend morning meteorologist. This is part of the series of newscast expansions amongst the NBC Owned Television Stations, which included the return of an hour-long weeknight 5 p.m. newscast back in May, that have been made as a part of a condition imposed by the FCC as part of its approval of Comcast's acquisition of 51% of NBCUniversal. This leaves CBS-owned WFOR as the only Miami area English-language station without weekend morning newscasts, which seems a little odd that there are English-language stations producing local newscasts in a market as big as Miami/South Florida that don't carry weekend morning news (although WTVJ and WPLG will be the only stations in the area with weekend morning newscasts on both Saturdays and Sundays as WSVN has a Saturday morning newscast, but no Sunday morning newscast).
