Ntropolis 598 Posted October 1, 2011 Posted October 1, 2011 WVEC has begun the process of getting a new set. The current set is from 1996, and looked pretty much the same until it was updated in 2008 (new paint, backdrop). The guts of the set, namely the part at the bottom with the fake TV screens, date back to 1990! http://www.facebook....65187416&type=1
KRAP-TV 146 Posted October 1, 2011 Posted October 1, 2011 Wasn't it WVEC that raised the front portion of the top of the main desk to hide computers or uplighting or something a few years ago? I just remember it looking terrible and folks complaining about why they didn't just get an entirely new set considering how old it already was. Well, it's finally happening! Random post, I know...
tw-804 193 Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 That's great news. Can't wait to check it out after it's complete.
WCAUTVNBC10 413 Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 Whatever happened to the giant ABC logo that was on that set?

Yeah, I think they got rid of that in 08 when they painted it orange. Whatever happened to the giant ABC logo that was on that set? In 09 they replaced the blue cloud background with graphics, and that went with it.
kshow 167 Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 Awwe. My university's clock tower is in the background. I'll miss that.
KRAP-TV 146 Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 Ah yes, this is hoe I last remember WVEC looking. Thanks for the confirmation. It's hard to believe someone thought it a good idea to paint the set orange...
Ntropolis 598 Posted October 2, 2011 Author Posted October 2, 2011 The set actually went through a couple different graphic changes in 08/09... the ABC logo from the original set was replaced by a graphic with the new glossy ABC logo, and then was changed again to the graphics with the city scenes around the time the new logo debuted.
Ntropolis 598 Posted October 11, 2011 Author Posted October 11, 2011 New set pieces began arriving today. http://www.facebook....6&type=1&ref=nf The stamp on that wooden piece says Scecon, a Portsmouth-based company. Props to them for choosing to go local and not get an FX set like everyone else!
Ntropolis 598 Posted October 17, 2011 Author Posted October 17, 2011 Here it is! Debuts tonight at 5. Definitely nothing like this market's seen before. Very bright...
newsie 11 Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 Looks a little too bland for my tastes and too similar to the Today Show.
abric 181 Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 They could add some monitors or something on the news desk. It looks so empty.
kshow 167 Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 Ugly. Looks like something for a college/high school news station.
Guest Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 Not bad, but would be better if main backdrop was a monitor, not a giant duratran. That really cheapens the look overall.

Guest Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 Yeah.. it is a little plain. I think the lighting needs a ton of work too. That desk is HUGE.
abric 181 Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 I'm disappointed that is the finished product. We all know it's not.
