Ntropolis 596
Thought this article from The Virginian-Pilot was interesting. Old Dominion University did a study on the amount of crime stories shown on local newscasts in Hampton Roads... http://hamptonroads....ll-awfully-high Study: Crime coverage down, but 'still awfully high' This just in: Violent crime is down on TV news, but overall crime reports are up, accounting for one of every three top stories. More than one-quarter of local TV news stories focus on crime, according to a section in Old Dominion University's State of the Region report, released last week... ...WAVY (Channel 10) and its sister station, WVBT (Fox 43), had the highest proportion of stories involving crime - 32 percent and 30.4 percent, respectively. WTKR (Channel 3) was next, at 21.3 percent. WVEC (Channel 13) had the lowest, at 17.8 percent. trev57 46
Doesn't surprise me. In Milwaukee its pretty much crime, politics, weather, and sports. Of course they try to do "Making Milwaukee Great" on WDJT and "On the Upside" on WITI but those are only one story each a couple times a week. Oh, and "Positively Milwaukee" on TMJ4. Guest
This is very much a consultant-driven thing. Working the police beat... I mean, it is news... but I really don't care about a house fire.
