Phil Metlin is moving north to serve as VP and news director for WTXF, the Fox O&O in Philadelphia, it was announced this afternoon. Metlin will join WTXF from the Fox O&O in Tampa, Fla.,WTVT, where he has served as news director since June 1997. While in Tampa, he oversaw day-to-day newsroom operations and also supervised five news expansions. Metlin also worked with WTVT as an executive producer from 1985 to 1989. “I am so pleased to be here in the great city of Philadelphia and cannot wait to start working with the talented news team at FOX 29,” said Metlin. Metlin will start at WTXF on May 21, reporting directly toVP and GM Mike Renda. “While at WTVT, Phil’s depth and breadth of experience and dedication to local news helped to make the station a leader in the market,” said Renda. "These qualities made him a terrific choice to direct our newsroom and we’re thrilled to have him on the WTXF management team.” Prior to joining WTVT, Metlin was a Managing Editor at America’s Most Wanted. He has also previously worked with Fox as an executive producer for WTTG Washington, D.C. from 1992 to 1995. Earlier, Metlin served as news director for WHNT Huntsville, Ala., and a producer for WPLG in Miami. He started his broadcast career with Cox Television's WPXI in Pittsburgh in 1978. A native of Pittsburgh, Metlin holds a B.A. in communications from the University of Wisconsin. For now there is no word on who will take the N/D job at WTVT.
