TexasTVNews 1378
If anybody watched the new HBO series The Newsroom starring Jeff Daniels (Dumb & Dumber) and Sam Waterston (Law & Order); well, you got to see it because over 2.5 million viewers watched the series premiere and the full episode is on YouTube. http://www.youtube.c...h?v=1U4ZhFDFYvE Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/11952-the-newsroom-hbo-series/ Share on other sites
Jess 1115
Before anyone deletes it, the YouTube upload is a legal one from HBO itself. Saw previews, not sure if I want to get into it. Aaron Sorkin's behind this, and TV.com/GiantBomb.com staffer and fellow Nic Cage fan Alex Novarro says it better than I can: There are certain truths to be held as absolutes in this world. We know that so long as there is gravity, our feet will always be held to the earth. We know that so long as air fills our lungs, we may live. And we know that so long as a breathing Aaron Sorkin has his feet firmly planted on this earth, he will make shows featuring impossibly witty characters spouting long-winded speeches in highly rhythmic bouts of inhuman dialogue set against the backdrop of some high-stress, behind-the-scenes profession involving entertainment or politics or both. These are absolutes that cannot be unproven. With this in mind, anticipating a new Aaron Sorkin series tends to be less about the content of the episodes than the overall setting and characters. Which is to say that, no matter what an episode is about, the dialogue will be of the same general tone and tenor as every other episode. The question then is whether or not the setting and characters speak to us in a way that captures our attention. This was what drove me nuts with The Social Network, by the way. ALL OF THE DAMN CHARACTERS sounded oh-so-articulate and oh-so-witty that it detracted from the movie a lot. It worked because he had a filter to get rid of the excess fat, and a really good cast that got mileage out of the dialogue. Here, he has no filter, like he didn't on Studio 60 On The Sunset Strip, and that turned out ugly. The newsroom conceit fascinates me, but the actual show itself has to not be Sorkin sermonizing for an hour, and the reviews don't really bode well in that regard. I imagine I'll get to seeing it (HBO Go is a greater invention than Netflix), but the verdict is still "I dunno". Weeters 1939
like he didn't on Studio 60 On The Sunset Strip, THAT explains why the control room scenes were scripted similarly as the scenes from the first episode of Studio 60. They both even use the same props (the GVG-200 switcher). Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/11952-the-newsroom-hbo-series/#findComment-73629 Share on other sites
