Weeters 1969 Posted September 4, 2012 Author Posted September 4, 2012 oh god that morning blend set
LoadStar 364 Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 Are those two vertical monitors behind the anchor desk intended for stand-ups? If so, seems to be very odd placement. Can't imagine how they'd get a decent camera angle that way.

LoadStar 364 Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 Devlin Design Group have the best sets ever Meh. It's no FX set.
trev57 46 Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 Here's a new view in front of the green screen, which seems to have some sort of a monitor wall in front of it. Kind of an odd placement. (Photo Credit: Susan Kim)
Weeters 1969 Posted September 6, 2012 Author Posted September 6, 2012 Looks like they might have moved the desk back a bit. Link.
trev57 46 Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 Looks like they might have moved the desk back a bit. Link. Tom Murray says the "background is still a work in progress". I'm not entirely sure what that means.
trev57 46 Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 Devlin has posted a semi-full blog post on the set. Hey look, the anchor desk rotates! The Weather Center area also has several rolling kiosks: One which houses four 46” NEC Monitors, and another one that has a 65” U-Touch Screen complete with Accu-Weather software.
Weeters 1969 Posted September 7, 2012 Author Posted September 7, 2012 Can't wait to see that at least once a week this winter.
trev57 46 Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 5pm Sunday is the plan, according to Vince Vitrano.
C Block 1566 Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 Can't wait to see that at least once a week this winter. KMGH's Devlin-ified set does this. And it during the part of the newscast that's not weather related.
KRAP-TV 146 Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 KMGH's Devlin-ified set does this. And it during the part of the newscast that's not weather related. Agreed, except I think that it just looks awkward all the time. Sidenote: KMGH really needs to ditch the set. I hope Scripps is ready to invest...
LoadStar 364 Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 Only part I'm not fond of is the anchor desk. I hate that there is just so much of it in front of the anchors... looks like they're driving a tank around. I also generally prefer a desk with space with all four people *behind* it, not like this with space for two and two others to stand awkwardly to the sides. I'm a little unsure of the big bright white stripe across the floor in the multi-purpose/shared performance area. That area looks amazing without the raised section and with the round "discussion" table though. Morning Blend set? Practically perfect. I don't think I personally care for the sage, but I guess it goes OK.
jrh1985 57 Posted September 8, 2012 Posted September 8, 2012 Very Nice and Very COOL!!!! Any chance TMJ4 will get new graphics with this set or soon after???? Too bad the other Milwaukee stations doesn't have a news desk that rotates!

Weeters 1969 Posted September 8, 2012 Author Posted September 8, 2012 WDJT's desk could rotate if they ever really wanted to (WISN and WITI's desks are on large platforms attached to the set, WDJT's is not). The issue is having to have lights dedicated to lighting the desk in the alternate position and having to set up new camera shots.

I don't think I personally care for the sage, but I guess it goes OK. Eh. The desk doesn't really bother me, plus I'm willing to bet that they keep zooming in on the anchors like they do now, so you'll rarely see it. I'm more concerned about what image they decide to go with for behind the anchors. An HD live shot of Milwaukee would be ideal, but I'm not exactly sure how they would pull that off. So a recorded shot of Milwaukee in different types of weather would be nice (or a still image would work too, if they must). The absolute worst would be if they just went with some generic image with the "Today's TMJ4" logo on it (like WLUK).
trev57 46 Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 Today was the day. The set debuted at 5pm, and from what I saw, it's very impressive. I don't think they're using it to it's full potential yet (still doing sports from the anchor desk instead of the multipurpose area, weather in front of the green screen), but I'm hopeful that will change as time goes on. The main anchor background is decent, I just hope they come up with a different one for the morning and early afternoon newscasts. The only complaint I have is the anchors have to have their laptops on the desk now, rather than being built in like they were before.

Weeters 1969 Posted September 13, 2012 Author Posted September 13, 2012 Worth noting: they've recently dropped the "TODAY'S" from the website branding, and now all graphics refer to it as "tmj4.com". Here's hoping they're planning on phasing out "TODAY'S" entirely.
trev57 46 Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 Uh oh. The new set features the "Today's TMJ4" logo in a few places.

Here's hoping they're planning on phasing out "TODAY'S" entirely. Not seeing that here at all. When I just viewed the website, every single one of the graphics still show up with the TODAY'S part. Weird. TMJ4.com does exist, but redirects to todaystmj4.com. Edit: Oh, I see, you mean the on-air graphics that direct viewers back to the website. Sorry, I got it.
