KTLA now calling its forecasts "5 Live Weather"

Tribune Broadcasting's stations don't usually use brand names for their weather forecast segments/teams like other station groups do, but as of Tuesday, the company's Los Angeles station, CW affiliate KTLA has begun using "5 Live Weather" as an on-air branding for the station's weather forecasts. The station borrowed the "5 Live" branding from the traffic reports seen on all 53 hours of newscasts that KTLA produces weekly, which by coincidence or not, have the traffic reports handled by three members of the station's five-person weather staff (Vera Jimenez, Jim Castillo and Liberte Chan) during the station's midday, evening and weekend newscasts (only the KTLA Morning News has a dedicated traffic anchor, Ginger Chan).

 

KTLA's weather graphics have been modified as a result with the "5 Live Weather" logo simply applied to the banner graphics at the top of the screen. While most graphics have the logo applied properly (with the "5 Live" logo placed on the top portion of the weather maps and the captions now moved solely to the bottom portion of the banners), the 7-day forecast graphics for the Los Angeles metro area, the Orange County beaches, the San Fernando and San Gabriel Valleys, and the Inland Empire have had the logo added on in such a way that the repositioned Akzidenz Grotesk "7 DAY FORECAST" caption on the white portion of the banners is now of a bolder weight (instead of the two different lighter weights previously used), slightly condensed and awkwardly positioned (as it is placed towards the bottom edge of the white area, rather than squarely in the middle).
