TexasTVNews 1377
KTVT/CBS 11 and TXA 21 plan to move their Dallas operations, including newsroom and advertising sales offices, to the top floor of 12001 N. Central Expwy., which will now be renamed CBS Tower. The 13-story tower will feature ground-level and top-of-building signage in the next few weeks. The operations will officially move to the top floor of the tower Monday. The visibility of the tower signage, along with the property's proximity to two major freeways -- North Central Expressway and LBJ Freeway -- led to the television station's decision to relocate its offices, said CBS 11 and TXA 21 President and General Manager Gary Schneider. RPD Catalyst is the landlord and manager of CBS Tower. The relocation follows the sale of the stations' former Dallas building at 10111 N. Central Expwy. The station's primary studios and other technical and business operations will remain in Fort Worth. KTVT-KTXA’s primary studios and other technical and business operations will remain in east Fort Worth on Bridge Street. WXmanTim 88
How very odd. I can't even imagine why they would want that much physical separation between the newsroom and the studio. I guess it works for them, considering it appears they were already doing it with the old facilities and the Ft Worth Studios. bostonmediaguy 123
Is it not the Dallas "bureau" that is moving to CBS Tower? WXmanTim 88
Ok, now that makes more sense. I have driven through Dallas & Fort Worth exactly once (and right past the KTVT facilities along I-30). I believe I was under the misimpression that it was that building that had been sold. J.M. 3
Is it not the Dallas "bureau" that is moving to CBS Tower? Correct. All Big 4 stations here have newsrooms in both Dallas AND in Fort Worth. This is just the Dallas Newsroom for KTVT being moved to the new CBS Tower. I believe CBS Tower is where CBS-owned radio station NewsRadio 1080 KRLD-AM is already based out of, and has studios. If I'm not mistaken, CBS Corp also does some marketing advertising work out of here (billboard marketing, sales, etc.), too. A sidenote here, to clear up any confusion - KDFW and WFAA are based in downtown center-city Dallas with full (albeit secondary) newsroom facilities in Fort Worth. KXAS and KTVT are both based out of east Fort Worth, with secondary newsroom facilities in Dallas. Back when KXAS/NBC announced a new TV station building for that station at Centerpoint Park (near DFW Airport, but still on City Of Fort Worth soil), Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price made it clear how important it was that the City Of Fort Worth do whatever it can to keep both 5 and 11 based out of FW (with the understood being that FW would not allow 5 or 11 to move to Dallas, Arlington, Grand Prairies or any other Metroplex city/suburb). WFAA only has a small newsroom in Fort Worth and Fort Worth's KDFW bureau is now closed. Dallas has CBS tower since Dallas also has a CBS News bureau and other major CBS offices that Fort Worth doesn't. Betsy Price was wrong to have that attitude. Neither KTVT nor KXAS are Fort Worth stations. They are DFW metroplex stations. The CBS Tower is the one in the pic above (I have more I can post, just have to find them); while the now-dubbed 'CBS Radio Tower' is a separate building on the same freeway, much closer to downtown, in a gray office building. That building is where KRLD and the other CBS-owned local radio stations are. Here's the Google StreetView of it: http://goo.gl/maps/AYGzb Meanwhile, now that KXAS/5 and KXTX/39 are finished with their building and moved in, everything (previous Fort Worth main studio/offices, previous Dallas bureau/offices, previous NBC Dallas bureau) is all in the same place now.
