chrelevator 28 Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 Not too long ago I pointed out that KDKA is probably the only O&O without a Mobile Weather Lab. Tonight, they ran an advertisement showing that they are finally getting one. It will be very interesting to see what they're going to do with this. I know that Dennis Bowman does travel around to Western PA schools talking about weather forecasting, so I wouldn't be at all surprised if he would drive the Mobile Weather Lab to his presentations. Otherwise, KDKA would probably only use it on air when there's a major weather event, which doesn't happen too often around here.
Leavellebrett 85 Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 I know during big snow storms and such, a large team forms over PA. There are reports from the Nexstar stations WLYH (WHP), WJET and WBRE/WYOU on WTAJ because they're sister stations. WTAJ also gets a lot of stories from KYW and KDKA for stories in Westmoreland County and Indiana County. Those areas get both stations and get a lot of snow. Having this statewide "network" could be great if the Nexstar/CBS affiliates could use their work like they usually do. On another note, Joe Murgo from WTAJ also goes around to a lot of Central PA schools like Dennis Bowman.
chrelevator 28 Posted October 31, 2013 Author Posted October 31, 2013 The Mobile Weather Lab is debuting tonight on KDKA-TV News at Six. One of KDKA's photogs posted a photo of the vehicle: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/BX7to90CYAInTFO.jpg:large
