KGTV anchor Bill Griffith to retire in May of 2015

I was checking out KGTV's jobs page and came across a posting for a morning anchor position. It was surprising and not so surprising that more changes were in store for KGTV, seeing as there has been a revolving door of morning anchors for the last 8 years or so. Checking Twitter out, I came across a tweet by long time AM anchor Bill Griffith (posted last month) that he was planning to retire at the end of next May. So the AM anchor opening made sense as the station may want to get the viewers familiarized with the new anchor before he or she completely takes over Bill's spot. His retirement is a year shy of his 40th anniversary with the station- quite a career. More as his retirement day approaches and the person assuming his duties. Bill currently anchors the Morning (4:30-7am) and Midday newscast (11am) alongside Virginia Cha.

Update: Bill will retire from ABC 10 on Feb. 25, 2014. His replacement is Jason Martinez, formerly of WPLG in Miami. Jason officially takes on over on 2/26. KGTV has planned a month long retrospect for Bill, where he will drive around San Diego in an RV, highlighting his favorite places and looking back at his 40 years on San Diego television.
