Media General fined $700K for WAGT operation

The FCC has reached a Consent Decree with Media General over its operation of WAGT while it was under Gray's ownership. Media General and Gray were involved in lititgation over the termination of the JSA and SSA that Schurz entered into with Media General in 2009. Media General obtained a preliminary injunction requiring the JSA and SSA to continue and also prohibited Gray from offering WAGT in the incentive auction. As a result, Media General will pay a $700,000 "Settlement Payment" to the U.S Treasury.

A big fine and a slap on the wrist basically...

 

Since this was an isolated occurence tied to the legal wrangling and control of WAGT, this is probably the end result. Companies like RKO General were brought down by a litany of corporate misconduct over the years that led to their downfall and loss of stations...
