CaPa 14
So, we know Tegna had to take KFMB (AM) and KFMB-FM San Diego to get the TV station from Midwest TV. Now, the next step: The San Diego Reader says that KFM-BFM (that's what they call the FM) is not interested in keeping their star morning show, Dave Rickards, Shelly Dunn, and Cookie "Chainsaw" Randolph (yeah, a nickname for a nickname), and hasn't communicated with them as their contracts expire at the end of the month. The article speculates that Local Media San Diego, the American operator of three Tijuana-Rosarito-licensed FMs (Z90, 91X, Magic 92.5) is interested in buying the stations; what the article doesn't mention is that Local Media operated the KFMB stations very briefly in 2015-16 and it did not end well. But Tegna wanting out shouldn't surprise anyone. That they won't make a deal to keep the FM's stars in place for a sale is... an interesting strategy, certainly. If it impacts revenues, and losing a long-running and popular morning show usually does that, it'll be interesting to see what the price will be. Also not mentioned is whether Entercom might bid to grab DSC for its 97.3 The Fan, the FM sports station that got off to a poor start after aborting a talk-Classic Rock hybrid approach (Google "Kevin Klein Twitter" for that one...). https://www.sandiegoreader.com/news/2018/jul/05/ticker-dave-shelly-chainsaw-looking-new-radio-home/ Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/16521-sd-reader-tegna-looking-to-get-rid-of-san-diego-radio-stations-dave-shelly-chainsaw-morning-show/ Share on other sites
