jbjimbo 0
Nothing too important here but I just found it interesting that besides listing headlines from WNBC.com on the New York area page of MSNBC.com, headlines from WABC's 7online.com are also listed. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3086042/ Yeah I know cable networks have on air deals with stations regarding video and such...but I just found it interesting that a cable news network, owned by NBC obviously, would include headlines from an ABC station. username23 1
hmmm definitely interesting. WABC belongs to NNS, but that only combines ABC NewsOne, FOX News Edge, and CBS Newspath. WNBC belongs to NBC NewsChannel, which all NBC affiliates belong to. I'm guessing it's probably an MSNBC.com only deal, and likely only applies to the local news section of the website, also it does link directly to the WABC website, so it's not as if they are officially in an exchange deal of information, but more that 7online.com wants to get their links up and msnbc.com wants to look better in their online section so they inked that deal. It's likely nothing major. Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/1674-wabc-headlines-on-msnbc/#findComment-15741 Share on other sites
jbjimbo 0
Yea nothing major but interesting none the less. And speaking of NewsOne, News Edge and Newspath (which, by the way, what does NNS stand for?), does anyone have streams of them. You can often get Fox News Edge on this stream from WNYW's site: http://mfile.akamai.com/23042/live/reflector:59005.asx. And I've sometimes have seen feeds from other ABC stations on this feed from WABC (not often though): http://mfile.akamai.com/12441/live/reflector:39570.asx (not sure if thats NewsOne or some other system). Does anyone have any other links to add? Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/1674-wabc-headlines-on-msnbc/#findComment-15765 Share on other sites
username23 1
NNS stands for Network News Service, basically a cost effective resource for ABC, FOX, and CBS to get video to their distribution points for their affiliates (NewsOne, News Edge, and Newspath). Most of the footage is provided by affiliates during major stories in their area, then submitted to their network, which distributes it on NNS. The footage is usually embargoed to any of the local affiliates in the same viewing area as the station that originally shot the video. The video is used without a courtesy because NNS is something that is subscribed to by the networks in somewhat of an alliance. The exception is usually in breaking news situations. If you watch FOX News or MSNBC during major breaking stories in local areas not covered by their direct O&Os or affiliates specifically for the cable news station, then they go to NNS. Either way they still courtesy. It's worth noting that there is no specific deal that forces ABC, FOX, or CBS to put video online, but in good faith they share the video since it makes sense to get the news out there rather than show crappy news (all jokes on actual coverage aside). As for the links, I'm not sure that you can see the video streaming of NewsEdge or Newspath, it's typically distributed through intake feeds and not streaming for the general public.
