TexasTVNews 1377
SoFlo Anchor is soon going to be looking for a job. Word is that WFOR in Miami is not going to renew the contract of their main Anchor Shannon Hori. Hori anchors the 5, 5:30 and 11PM newscasts at this CBS O&O. Sources tell FTVLive that the station is not renewing her contract. Hori came to WFOR in June 2007 from KTVT/CBS 11/Dallas where she anchored the morning show. Before KTVT, Hori worked for six years at WESH-TV, the NBC affiliate in Orlando, where she anchored the weekday 5:30pm newscast and reported for the 11 pm news. No word yet on who will replace her. CircleSeven 1955
A former WJW weather personality returns to headline its new 4pm program this fall. The Cleveland Plain-Dealer states that former WJW meteorologist Melissa Mack will return to the station, in time for the station's new 4pm newscast, premiering this fall. Melissa was at the station from 2006 to late 2009, where she moved to Boston to do weather at CBS's WBZ 4. tw-804 190
KDVR Fox 31 in Denver has announced a change to its evening anchor line up. Jeremy Hubbard and Deborah Takahara will be the new primary anchor team for the Fox 31 News at 5 and the Fox 31 News at 9 starting Monday, April 8th. Ron Zappolo will retire after 30 years in broadcasting Friday (he anchored at KDVR since 2000, before that he did sports for KUSA and KCNC). Meanwhile, Juan Carlos Fanjul is leaving WPEC in West Palm Beach. His last broadcast was Sunday (March 31). He joined WPEC from WGN in 2008 as the 7pm anchor, then management moved him to mornings and then later to weekend evenings. According to Jose Lambiet of Gossip Extra, he wants to "seek other opportunities". C Block 1566
That's not surprising about Deborah and Jeremy taking over for Ron and Libby, though I wonder who will do the 10pm news with Hema Mullur and who will do the 7pm news on KWGN. I suppose Hema is an obvious fit, and maybe they'll move Boris Sanchez to weekdays? An update to the anchor changes at KDVR-KWGN as the stations have hired Brooke Wagner (who left KCNC in January) and Kirk Yuhnke (who was last with ABC affiliate KNXV/Phoenix) to anchor KDVR's morning newscast Good Day Colorado, both will start on April 22. A staff email sent by news director Ed Kosowski revealed several other anchor changes at KDVR-KWGN: * Nick Emmons will move from Good Day to KWGN's 7 p.m. newscast, anchoring alongside Hema Mullur. * Emmons' Good Day co-anchor, Melody Mendez, will transition to a general assignment reporter role as well as serving as a fill-in for Natalie Tysdal on lifestyle program Everyday, Tysdal announced that she will be leaving the station at the end of May. * Reporter Boris Sanchez will take over for Jeremy Hubbard as co-anchor the 10 p.m. newscast Nightside with Hema Mullur beginning tonight (April 8). * Kim Posey will solo anchor the weekend evening newscasts (presumably only the Saturday 5 and 9 p.m. shows), while co-anchoring with Eli Stokols on Sunday evenings. T.L. Hughes 881
Oklahoma City Fox affiliate KOKH has added three new members to its news staff: * Wendy Suares, who was among those laid off from KARK/Little Rock in December as part of its owner Nexstar Broadcasting's acquisition of Fox/CW duopoly KLRT-KASN (through proxy company Mission Broadcasting) and the merger of KARK and KLRT's news departments, is joining KOKH as its new weekday morning anchor. Suares replaces Liz Dueweke, who left the station over the weekend and will become the new weekday morning and 11 a.m. anchor at soon-to-be-sister station KOMO-TV/Seattle. * Rebecca Schleicher joins the station as a general assignment reporter, having joined KOKH from NBC affiliate KCEN in Waco, where she was also a reporter. * Christine VanTimmeren also joins the station as a general assignment reporter, coming to KOKH from Rochester, New York NBC affiliate WHEC. VanTimmeren had also previously worked at Grand Rapids Fox affiliate WXMI. TexasTVNews 1377
Nexstar’s Salt Lake City duopoly, KTVX-KUCW, is getting a new look on Monday. The redesign is timed to coincide with KTVX’s 65th anniversary, the Salt Lake Tribune reports: The news set is getting a huge makeover. Viewers will quickly notice the new color scheme — pale green, purple-gray and orange-red. The set for “Good Things Utah” also is getting a completely new look, as well as a new focus. “We’re going to embrace our legacy,” said Richard Doutre Jones, vice president and general manager of KTVX and sister station KUCW-Channel 30, in January. “Do you live in Utah? Then we care about you.” Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/16860-out-about/page/13/#findComment-81037 Share on other sites
T.L. Hughes 881
Oklahoma City NBC affiliate KFOR-TV has hired veteran storm chaser Reed Timmer as part of its storm tracking field unit. Timmer started at KFOR on April 17, during a severe weather event that produced seven confirmed tornadoes across Oklahoma, along with flash flooding. The University of Oklahoma meteorology graduate was most recently seen on the now-cancelled Discovery Channel series Storm Chasers. Timmer will chase Oklahoma's severe weather in his proprietary SRV Dominator 2 vehicle (which Timmer co-designed with Kevin Barton and Terry Rosema), an 8,500-pound vehicle, encased with 16-gauge steel and Kevlar, and containing anchoring spikes that would allow it to encounter strong tornadoes. A full description of the current iteration of the vehicle and its original version is included in the Wikipedia article in the second link. CircleSeven 1955
Say goodbye to Eyewitness News at 9pm on My54. The Times-Picayune states it appears that WWL-TV will drop its 9pm newscasts on WUPL after tonight's broadcast. The 9pm newscast will be replaced by an interview-driven program entitled "The 504", hosted by Eyewitness Morning News anchor Melanie Hebert. The program will be taped every morning (after the Eyewitness Morning News) every weekday. The station cites that the 9pm news was the lowest-rated program with a 1.1 rating. So they want to free up the staff members to prepare for the Nightwatch show at 10pm on Channel 4. According to the Charlotte Observer, his contract was going to be expired later this year. I wouldn't be shocked if he retreat to WJZY 46 later this year. I thin WCCB has to settle in with doing more with less, since they will be the new CW station. They have to work with what they got, or to find more coverage deals, live local sports programming to try to get the Fox numbers, that will be next to impossible. They will still air the Panthers exhibition games in August, but unless they get some deals with like ESPN Plus for College Footbal & College Basketball, or local high school sports, they have to really trim down. And no doubt the revenue will take a hit post-Fox. Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/16860-out-about/page/13/#findComment-82243 Share on other sites
