Jake 3 Posted August 16, 2007 Posted August 16, 2007 From this morning's Inquirer: TV news news Fox29 morning anchor George Mallet has given notice after 11 years, bound for Milwaukee. His last day has not been announced. Fox29, whose chief Mike Renda said he'd "miss his passion and enthusiasm for the news," has not named a successor. Lips are sealed about Mallet's destination station, but I know it's WTMJ, Milwaukee's NBC station. Once the solid No. 1 in town, WTMJ is trying to restore its luster; this week, it changed general managers. Queried yesterday if Mallet was coming aboard, news director Bill Berra told me: "I can't say." Mallet, who turns 47 next month, didn't return messages. Kinda surprised, Mallet always seemed really into being in this area
Sam Horn 78 Posted August 16, 2007 Posted August 16, 2007 Kinda surprised, Mallet always seemed really into being in this area I'm not; 29 has always had a knack for abusing some of its best talent. It's especially glaring when said talent is replaced by sub-par stuff.
tdrtv 0 Posted August 16, 2007 Posted August 16, 2007 Getting rid of Mallet is a big mistake for Fox 29.
Jake 3 Posted August 16, 2007 Author Posted August 16, 2007 Did they get rid of him or is he leaving? The article gave me the impression that he was leaving, not canned. Maybe he's tired of getting up early and wanted an evening gig, even if it is a much smaller market.
WCAUTVNBC10 413 Posted August 16, 2007 Posted August 16, 2007 From what it sounds like, he's leaving on his own accord. I highly doubt 29 would force him out (although if you know what I know it's very well possible). I think Mallet knew he'd never get Huddles' job so he decided to move on.
Jake 3 Posted August 17, 2007 Author Posted August 17, 2007 Wasn't Mallet pissed when he didn't get Huddles's job? I know the other guy sued, but I vaguely remember Mallet feeling passed over.

Way to sound like Howard Eskin, Eric. Anyway, it's a shame Mallet's leaving. He's a solid anchor who deserves better. Well, I hear there's plenty of horse stables in Wisconsin...

Nah, Wisconsin is more bovine than equine.
