Darrell Phillips

Investigative Reporter, WHBQ-TV Memphis

I'm sure some of us on here are familiar with the social news aggregator known as FARK.com. Well, it turns out an Investigative Reporter from Fox-owned WHBQ in Memphis has been caught red-handed trying to hack the website. Website-owner, Drew Curtis, told the online blog "Valleywag" that he had "electronic evidence" pointing to WHBQ Fox13 Investigative Reporter, Darrell Phillips. Curtis went on to tell "Valleywag" that he was "pursuing legal action to obtain records and eliminate any doubt." Curtis also says he plans to "file a civil claim in federal court to get subpoenas sent." As of now WHBQ, Fox Television Stations Inc., and Phillips have been mum regarding this issue. However, I expect that well see Fox taking some very serious steps to rectify this.

His behavior is inexcusable, illegal, and unethical.

Claim your prize: A pink slip. If you're lucky, you won't get jail time (but you probably deserve it).

Just another reason why journalists have an uphill climb in the area of trustworthiness.

It's sickening.

He's in a major heap of trouble. All of the evidence points directly to him and looks pretty solid. It should, however, be noted that Phillips is not an investigative reporter for WHBQ, he's not part of the on-air staff at all, he's director of New Media and manages their web content. Investigative Reporter was one of his original positions at WMC, before he was promoted to director of New Media there. It also appears, according to Fark, that at this point this all looks to be the sole work of Phillips, and no other members of the station staff are involved.
