mightynine 290 Posted September 5, 2007 Posted September 5, 2007 http://www.wwltv.com/50years/ Check out some old school graphics! Good video and photo galleries.
PelicanGuy 117 Posted September 5, 2007 Posted September 5, 2007 The anniversary special Friday night shall be a good one. Three hours of flashbacks.
WAVY 10 Fan 233 Posted September 5, 2007 Posted September 5, 2007 I hope WAVY does something to simply approach this quality with their special event two weeks from Friday. Amazing! Bonus points for rare image of Jim Kincaid before he went to WCBS, ABC News and finally WVEC.
Chief-O 34 Posted September 5, 2007 Posted September 5, 2007 Loved the behind the scenes video from '68. Interesting how glad local stations were to broadcast in full color back then.
TexasTVNews 1378 Posted September 5, 2007 Posted September 5, 2007 Here's to the First 50 Years and Here's to another 50 Years! ;D
Blargh 2 Posted September 5, 2007 Posted September 5, 2007 The man in the corner of the website was annoying.
Oliverolang 41 Posted September 6, 2007 Posted September 6, 2007 The man in the corner of the website was annoying. I can't stand that one as well. I'm unfortunately in Illinois on vacation, and won't be back in time to see all of the specials. But I did e-mail WWL and they will have it on their web site. I'm greatly looking forward to seeing it!
NewzPimpin 1 Posted September 6, 2007 Posted September 6, 2007 The man in the corner of the website was annoying. Yeah. Did you see the suit he was wearing? I think SuitSnob needs to have a conversation with him...
PelicanGuy 117 Posted September 7, 2007 Posted September 7, 2007 I can't stand that Michael Hingle thingy at the bottom right corner too...that's operated by Rovion. Here's a Times-Picayune story on the history of the station and tonight's anniversary special. http://www.nola.com/living/t-p/index.ssf?/base/living-8/1189145623191220.xml&coll=1 EDIT: The anniversary special has been pretty good so far. The first two hours were dedicated to 50 memorable moments in the NOLA area. The last hour is dedicated to the staff who's been at Channel 4 through the years. You can watch online live. They probably will post the shows in segments online afterward. Plus, on today's Garland Robinette show on WWL radio, Garland had Angela Hill, Jim Henderson and Dave Barnes as guests. Links shall be up over the weekend.
WAVY 10 Fan 233 Posted September 9, 2007 Posted September 9, 2007 I mentioned the picture of Jim Kincaid. Here's a cropped version (non-original).
AarHan3 18 Posted July 16, 2017 Posted July 16, 2017 EDIT: The anniversary special has been pretty good so far. Here is that interview Garland Robinette had with Angela Hill, Jim Henderson and the now-late Dave Barnes, featuring classic audio WWL-TV clips (save for one!): Here is the 50 Memorable Moments special: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=s3ae5_mGnIs;t=156 And last but beyond least, here is the 50th Anniversary special itself, The Story Behind The Spirit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=lwJVt-71Fxo;t=2278 Now WWL-TV is observing its Diamond Jubilee this year. Let's hope it's as big as its preceding Golden Anniversary 10 years ago. (Anyone have a copy of the full WWL-FM interview with all the classic WWL-TV audio clips, including the 1980 6PM Eyewitness News 4 open, which was unceremoniously cut out?? )
TheRolyPoly 2592 Posted July 17, 2017 Posted July 17, 2017 Bumping a thread from 10 years ago... WWL-TV is turning 60 this year.
AJClementeFan69 477 Posted July 18, 2017 Posted July 18, 2017 Bumping a thread from 10 years ago... WWL-TV is turning 60 this year. Tegna...doing its best to render the place unrecognizable since it doesn't like over-50s. Hope Eric/Sally-Ann can stick around for a while more.
AarHan3 18 Posted November 10, 2017 Posted November 10, 2017 And right here is where the 60th anniversary special can be viewed online. http://www.wwltv.com/news/local/watch-celebrating-wwl-tvs-60th-anniversary/471807820
