A veteran WJLA television cameraman has been struck and killed in Upper Marlboro.

Fifty-one year-old Gordon Davis had just finished shooting news coverage of Prince George's County firefighters battling a fire at a strip center when he was hit by a car around 2:40 a.m.

The vehicle was traveling south in the 7,500 block of Robert Crain Highway as Davis crossed the road to reach his truck. The driver notified firefighters of the incident and they tried to save his life.

Davis was pronounced dead at Southern Maryland Hospital.

It is quite sad to see a story like this. However, it is interesting because all the stations are mentioning how all of the photographers, and reporters are very good friends and help each other out. It was a really rough story, even because FOX 5 and WUSA interviewed ABC 7 reporters who were on in tears. Very tough story. It really shows the dangers, although this is somewhat unusual, of the business.
