Emmy's

Do they really mean anything? Do they help you get a job?

It looks like Mendte entered every or almsot every category, a bit much, well I guess so for an insecure man.

From what it looks like, he just whored out the Scotts for his personal gain.

Mendte will probably order a nomination plaque for every award he didn't win just so he has something to show for it.

Funny how the three biggest stations (CBS 3, NBC 10, and Fox 29) enter in tons of categories like they are afraid they will look bad if they don't bring home tons of awards while the smaller stations (WNEP, WFMZ, WGAL, etc) only enter in a few categories because they know that when it comes to producing a quality product the number of awards you win don't mean squat.

It wasn't the Emmy awards, but in a previous life I was involved in some...fishy award ceremonies.

Let's just say that in some areas of this business, it really *does* matter who you know, and who you suck up to.

You bet some of these awards can be rigged. That's sad because I think journalists, above all else, should be standing up for honesty and setting the example for society. If we're cheating too...no wonder many have lost faith in this profession. Then again, I've found through my experiences in life that most in this world are perfectly OK with cheating *coughBaseballSteroidsPatriotsElectionscough*.

Mid-level awards theoretically shouldn't mean anything, but if you're just starting out, an award can really determine whether you end up in civilization, or if you're in Nowhere USA. I don't necessarily flaunt my awards--I won a Telly award last year, for example, and not a lot of people on this board know about it--because there are more important things to showcase...like my demo reel. ;D

Rigged?

Ridiculous.

Do you think Larry bribed the judges? A briefcase stuffed with cash was fed-exed to the judges eating pizza in San Francisco?

Number One, he's a hard-working guy. If Jimbo doesn't enter, how does that diminish Larry's effort?

Channel Three does benefit from having an awesome editor named Mike Henry who works on the award submissions and makes sure the message of their work is properly submitted.

Rigged, I don't know about that, but until Action News starts entering it doesn't mean as much, IMHO. And it does diminish the winner if Jimbo doesn't enter because it's like saying you're the champ when you don't get a shot at the "best." I am saying best as in longevity and ratings.

Kerri-Lee is good and deserving, so congratulations.
