Why do 7-day weather graphics use different colored headers for Saturday and Sunday data?

For example, on WCVB in Boston, Mon-Fri have white headers but Sat-Sun have gold headers.

 

And on WPRI in Providence, Mon-Fri have white headers but Sat-Sun have red headers.

Calendars have been this way since the 1800s; red indicates weekends and holidays, white or black weekdays.

 

Some stations may differ in color, but weekends are always demarcated by a different color than the weekdays.

Because people pay extra attention to weekend weather by and large. Pretty simple. Lots of plans that can be significantly impacted—sports events, family gatherings, day trips, et al.
