Farewell, The News Center. Hello, Broadcast Plaza!

Hello, everyone. I have an update regarding LocalNewsTalk and our partner Discord server The NewsCenter.

On Monday, The NewsCenter announced that it will be merging with the Broadcast Plaza Discord server. Emma's announcement to The NewsCenter follows.

Hi folks, it’s Emma here.

 

I have some important and exciting news to share with you. As of June 1st, The NewsCenter will begin the process of merging into Broadcast Plaza (BP).

 

This move may come as a surprise to many of you here. It was not an easy decision for me to make. But as you may have noticed, I do not have the time or capacity I once did to put my best into running The NewsCenter. I have been considering stepping back from my ownership for some time, and after careful consideration and discussion with our counterparts at BP, we believe this merger is the best decision for both of our communities moving forward.

 

The merger will bring together the breadth and reach of BP, and the legacy and experience of The NewsCenter, into one world-class broadcasting Discord server. Broadcast Plaza has grown tremendously over the last few years, and has built the moderation infrastructure necessary to handle its throughput. Good moderation is essential to good online communities, and I am confident that BP has what it takes, now and in the future.

 

Upon the merger, @Monique and @ntropolis will be joining the BP moderation team. @Weeters and I (@Emma) will be joining as server advisors over at BP. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all of the other moderators, past and present, for their tremendous service at TNC. Many of them will remain as active members at BP. I’d also like to thank Weeters for his years of partnership and collaboration with LocalNewsTalk.net, and Monique for spearheading the internal discussions that led to this move.

 

But above all else, I’d like to thank you, our members, for being an active part of this community. The NewsCenter could never have become anything close to what it is without the passion and presence of its members, and I hope to see that passion in the future at BP as well.

 

This server will remain active in its current state until June 1st. The staff here and at BP will be willing to answer any questions and concerns you may have in ⁠repack, which will stay open for at least one month following the 1st. Please note that users who are currently banned from BP will not be allowed to join the new server.

 

 

There have been a few questions as to what is happening to LocalNewsTalk following this merger. The answer is: not much! LocalNewsTalk will continue to exist, and we are working with Broadcast Plaza to continue the partnership we started with The NewsCenter. We will be updating our Discord page and adopting some Broadcast Plaza co-branding in the coming days and weeks. 

 

While the best place for questions about this merger remains the #repack channel mentioned above, I will do my best to answer any questions that this side of things may have below.
