I think there should be an international section of this, and I'm starting it off with HUGE news for our friends north of the border.

🍁 Canada

We have NOAA Weather Radio here in the States, while our friends up north have Weatheradio Canada. As of March 16th, the latter of the two will cease to exist.

🇨🇦 Canada

THE most recognized, most beloved personality, and one of the biggest legends ever in all of Canada seems to finally hang it up and call it a career after a 40 year run.

Marilyn Denis is leaving 104.5 CHUM-FM Toronto later this summer. She's done CityLine for Citytv and her own named show on CTV, in addition to her radio work.

She began in 1986 at CHUM FM alongside another legend, Roger Ashby who himself retired in 2018 after a nearly 50-year run there.

While it (somehow) scored top ratings, here's one Sydneysider who's not particularly heartbroken that The Kyle & Jackie O Show have come to an end.

It's in part due to K&JO's $200 Million contract that their sister station's actually good breakfast show of 20 years+ was bumped to National Drive, in favour of Englishman-turned-Melbournian Christian O'Connell whose show from Gold 104.3 down there is now relayed on 101.7 up here. Only time will tell, but I'm predicting that the Nova Entertainment-owned competitor Smooth 95.3 will gain further ratings inroads and finally conquer the breakfast timeslot.

Rather ironically, "Kyle & Jackie O's Haunted House" is/was expected to be a returning attraction at this year's Sydney Royal Easter Show (which I guess may be sort of our equivalent to the US' state/county fairs) from early next month - not sure we'll be likely to see something based on a now defunct breakfast show at that event now!

🗾 Japan (apparently, my computer's emoji thinks that's Japan, and I'll take it for their word)

After 95 years of broadcasting to all of Japan for educational purposes (including basic English lessons), NHK Radio 2 has officially signed off for good. NHK Radio 1 is now NHK AM as a result.
