Kevin Steele - Now at 5, 6 & 10pm

former resident of Beaumont-Port Arthur Texas here, now living in Bryan-College Station Texas.

 

seen this happen before...Tracy Kennick was the 5, 6, and 10 PM anchor with Shawn from 2002 until 2006 when she was demoted to the morning show and Deedra Wilson was promoted from the 5pm edition to 6 and 10pm. and she's the only person with any tenure at that station other than Dave Hofferth. Tracy's been there for over 10 years, and if memory serves she took over the main anchor position when Tara Hitchcock left KBMT sometime in the late 90's but then was quickly replaced by Adriane Matura at 6 and 10pm around 2000. then when Adriane departed KBMT, Tracy was moved back up.

 

Shawn took over for longtime Beaumont newsman Gene Tuck. KBMT needed "fresh faces" and Mr Tuck, who had been in the Beaumont market for about 30 years, was demoted to weekends before he ultimately retired or quit. he's never been seen since then. that was back in about 2002.

 

i wonder if it was a personal decision with Shawn to move to a morning position, or did something go down between McKinnon and Murdock.

 

i mean, come on....we're talking about a station that has not updated their news set in almost 20 years (except for the "new" background behind the desk). they finally did away with the "school picture blue" background in late 2006.
