Anissa Centers to Leave WALA After 11 Years

After a year of surprises and changes in the Mobile-Pensacola TV market, it appears to be coming to an end with the departure of another longtime news presenter, but on her own terms. Anissa Centers’ final newscast on WALA will air on December 15th, followed by her family’s departure from Mobile to Atlanta, Georgia, close to where her husband Reggie Centers will be managing a Auto Nation automobile dealership (Lithia Springs).

Before coming to WALA as an evening news presenter in August 1996, she gave TV viewers the news at KCEN in Waco, Texas. She was known as Anissa Coss to her home state viewers.

WALA is searching for a new co-anchor—I mean news presenter to be alongside longtime employee Bob Grip as Anissa Centers prepares to leave Mobile. I would suggest recently fired news presenter Drexel Gilbert, who has worked at the other local stations with news operations over a 28 year period: WEAR, WKRG, and WPMI.

May 2008 be a better year for broadcasting in Mobile-Pensacola and to everyone involved past and present.
