NewEnglandNewsInsider 0 Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 WJAR is planning to go HD sometime this year with a new set (1st new one in 10+ years). Wish it was via a link but it was from an anchor at the station.
TVNewsRI 4 Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 Can you elaborate any more on WJAR's transition to HD?
who?cares 255 Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 http://www.krqe.com/dpp/news/crime/AZ-fugitives-may-be-in-Yellowstone that video contains the open and a good shot of their new set. Looks pretty good.
NewEnglandNewsInsider 0 Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 Can you elaborate any more on WJAR's transition to HD? Just a new set. Graphics are HD ready, and music stays. I will be finding out more soon if possible. There pretty sure the'll beat WPRI to HD News.
TVNewsRI 4 Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 Wow, that would be a shock. WPRI seems very close, and I was told that they would be there "within a year." WPRI does HD programming overlays (ex. breaking news/severe weather tickers), HD promos, HD IDs, and has done a few HD specials, including some live ones. All of their gubernatorial debates this year are in 16:9. I haven't seen a single thing in HD from WJAR yet.
tw-804 194 Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 I'm watching the noon news on WTVR. They're now in HD. New news set, new graphics (goodbye, red and white!) and new music (the "News In Focus" cuts; "Virginia This Morning" [9am show] used a morning cut since a couple years ago). Their website is still red, maybe they'll change it soon. I wonder if they will still use "Enforcer NG2" for their 7pm newscast, "Virginia Tonight".

WJAR has an HD switcher but because of MG's money woes that's why they haven't done anything in HD. They upgraded there control room to a state of the art one and it's HD ready.

But it makes me wonder which Local TV stations are still in SD. I know WDAF still is...any others?
tw-804 194 Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 Here are some pics of WTVR's new set (via Facebook): http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=191560&id=6860957425&ref=mf Watched one of the videos from the station's website after work. Music is still "The Enforcer".
Weeters 1969 Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 WPRI does HD programming overlays (ex. breaking news/severe weather tickers), ... HD IDs... The tickers (if they're JUST tickers with no maps) can likely be attributed to a Lidia system. CBS helps the stations get these, so it's typically not a sign of HD news coming soon...(see: WDJT)
ProButtonPusher 230 Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 No, they have maps too. Weather Ticker/Breaking News software completely bypasses most equipment - though it's possible, this does not mean they're just about to go high definition.
semistatic 0 Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 WAND's website is reporting their news is in HD
mightynine 290 Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 WWL-TV's finally dropped what was left of the sidebars on newscasts (the open, some full-screen graphics), though the cameras still look ED (and some still look like absolute crap).
l14dap 1 Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 KOLD, the CBS affiliate in Tucson, AZ, launched local news in HD as of this morning with little hype. Just a short mention of going HD at the very end of the morning newscast and a blurb from the weather guy at 6 p.m. It makes them the second station in Tucson (after KVOA, whose newscasts have been in HD for nearly 3½ years). New logo and graphics. Same music pretty much (just different cuts of Enforcer). Some info here.

Looks like a pretty nice set from the little video I saw. Unfortunately I moved this weekend, so will have to wait a bit for video, but here's the new logo:
13WHAMfan 5 Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 I know I posted this earlier in the summer... but it was never added to the HD list, so I figured I would say it again. WHAM-TV in Rochester, NY is debuting in HD on Monday, September 13. They fully redesigned their set, have new graphics all around, updated logo, and many other updates. Here is an article on their website about it with a few pictures of the completed set: http://www.13wham.com/news/local/story/13WHAM-Goes-HD/kwXwOn_yNUCMl4bjbXZbXA.cspx

abric 181 Posted October 5, 2010 Posted October 5, 2010 WPBF News switched to HD on Monday October 4th. Here is their open.
tyrannical bastard 4033 Posted October 5, 2010 Posted October 5, 2010 WJHL in Johnson City, TN is now doing newscasts in HD as of yesterday. http://www2.tricities.com/news/2010/oct/04/11connects-unveils-new-high-definition-studio-ar-542036/ No word on WSAV yet, but I hear WKRG may be close to upgrading as well.
semistatic 0 Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 WDAF Fox 4 in Kansas City is going HD tomorrow (10/12/10) - the Kansas City Star has an interesting article: http://bit.ly/c5c4fT Also, KKTV in Colorado Springs is apparently in HD. I posted a new video of their open at: http://bit.ly/9p9XOf So now 3 of 4 stations in Colorado Springs are HD - not bad for market 92!
TennTV1983 807 Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 WTOC-TV in Savannah, GA just went HD as of today (or yesterday). http://www.wtoc.com/Global/story.asp?S=13292018
abric 181 Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 Other HD switches: WOI-TV in Des Moines, IA WSIL_TV in Harrisonburg, IL WMAR-TV in Baltimore, MD WTNH-TV in Hartford, CT
trev57 46 Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 WISN in Milwaukee is now 16:9 SD. It's not quite HD yet, but it's a huge step up.
