CBS News confirms that after five years in the anchor chair Hannah Storm is leaving The Early Show. She will stay on with the network. USMagazine.com first reported the news this afternoon.

Storm and CBS News president Sean McManus "are in discussions to determine the scope and depth of her new duties," says a press release.

Said Storm, "I have loved every minute of my five years at The Early Show, teaming up from the start with some of the best in the business."

US Magazine's source says newly-hired Early Show Senior EP Shelley Ross "loved Hannah and fought tooth and nail to get her to stay."

Prior to CBS, Storm worked for NBC Sports.

Thanks to Jordan, I actually read this article yesterday.

I think it's a shame, as Hannah is partially responsible for my watching the show. I think Hannah and Harry Smith would have made a fine morning team on their own-- forget Julie Chen. One of the reasons I liked the show was because it wasn't the same old morning team. Hannah isn't your cookie cutter morning anchor, having her sports background, and Harry Smith isn't, at least not to me, despite his lengthy CBS morning show career(s). Don't get me wrong, the show was still dry, unpolished and boring; and most recently the on-air presentation is hideous. I could stomach the show because the people and their views were different, so I didn't bother to change the channel after KDKA's morning show, or so I could catch Jim Lokay's wonderful morning traffic report.

I was also disappointed when Rene Seyler left, as she was another strong, unique personality. Replacing her with Russ Mitchell? RUSS MITCHELL? The guy is a bore; you couldn't get further away from a morning personality even if you had Tom Snyder! CBS needs a little bit of stability now, if ever, and they're simply an embarrassment now.

(PS I still like Katie Couric in the evenings, although the show itself needs to rethink it's format and stop trying to be what ABC and NBC already are.)

They tried. It failed.

Ew, did not! That was hardly different, it was like that "family friendly" stuff that went on in the 90s. Blech.

Shoot. I was hoping she'd return to NBC Sports. She'd be a perfect replacement for Tiki Barber (who I am not impressed with, frankly).
