I forgot to post this a while back but here are the ratings for Des Moines according to an article in the Des Moines Register. Unfortunately, the results are not surprising.

KCCI-TV reports that the Des Moines station has “another clean sweep of the news ratings” for the month of November, according to Nielsen Media Research.

The CBS affiliate was most dominate at 10 p.m. when 18 percent of all TV households were tuned to KCCI, compared with 10 percent for NBC affiliate WHO TV and 2 percent for ABC affiliate WOI TV.

For the 6 p.m. news, KCCI said 16 percent of TV households were tuned in, compared with 12 percent for WHO and 1 percent for WOI.

At 5 p.m., KCCI had 13 percent, compared with 8 percent for WHO and 2 percent for WOI.

For the noon news, KCCI had 7 percent and WHO had 5 percent.

During the 6-7 a.m. period, it was KCCI 8 percent, WHO 6 percent and WOI 1 percent.

Ouch...poor WOI. They might as well pull a KDNL and scrap their news product. Whatever crap they put in the news slots would probably rate higher.

Keep in mind WOI's news product is more established and that all their sister stations rank last place in the ratings.

So...if no one watches it, it doesn't matter if it's been around 5 years or 50 years.

They won't cancel it....just said they might as well.

WOI doesn't do a very good job promoting their heritage. Many good journalists came from WOI. Instead they seem to be running away from their legacy. Whatever the case, they won't cancel their newscasts as they still make some money, and this is the flagship of Capital's station group.

Speaking of KCCI...have you been watching C-SPAN these last few days? With the Iowa caucus just hours away, they've been showing a few minutes of their 6:00 news almost every night highlighting the local coverage of the candidates campaiging statewide. And...they even ended those clips with the talent open!
