CDubya87 0
As a producer at the station, when I got the news today, it was very hard. I always see other stations who lose reporters or anchors, and you grieve with them, but, it's always different when it happens to you. From Fourstateshomepage.com: Its a sad day for all of us here at KSN/KODE. We have lost a great friend, mentor and boss. Our News Director Larry Young died today following a long battle with cancer. Since 1999 Larry has served as News Director for both KSN and KODE-TV in Joplin. Larry was born in St Louis in 1944, he graduated from the University of Missouri with a degree in Journalism. He married the love of his life Cheri Eichenberger in 1969, shortly thereafter he joined the U.S. Air Force where he eventually spent a tour of duty in Vietnam. Following the Air Force Larry worked as a staff announcer for a radio station in Laplata, Maryland for six months. His television career began in 1973 at WBOC the CBS affiliate in Salisbury, Maryland. In 1984 Larry was transferred to Pittsburg, Kansas to assume the responsibility of News Director at KOAM TV channel seven. In November 1987 Larry became the News Director for KODE-TV Joplin.. He remained in that position until the station was sold. Then in November 1999 Larry was hired to head the news department at KSN where he has remained. Larry is survived by his wife Cheri and his two daughters Sarah and Adrienne both graduates of Carl Junction High School. Larry is not only loved by the staff and employees at KSN and KODE TV, but by members of his church and the people with whom he served the lord. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Webb City. http://fourstateshomepage.com/content/fulltext/?cid=10273 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/2831-two-nexstar-stations-lose-news-director-to-cancer/ Share on other sites
rjdickens 1
My condolances to everyone at KSNF and KODE. Larry was one tough cookie. He always seemed to have a sharp eye for what he thought things should look like, and his newscasts always reflected that.
