John McWethy, veteren ABC News correspondent died yesterday from injuries received in a skiing accident in Colorado.

McWethy was lured to the network, from US News & World Report, where he was their White House correspondent, in 1979 by the late-ABC News President Roone Arledge.

He served first as Pentagon correspondent before moving to the State Department as Chief National Security correspondent. He later returned to the Pentagon beat and was on the scene on September 11, 2001 when a highjacked American Airlines jet crashed into the side of the building.

McWethy retired from the network in 2003, but had worked as special correspodent off and on since. He was 61.

I heard about this earlier this morning. He was one of the finest reporters at ABC throughtout his career and he will be surely missed. RIP, Jack.
