Our thoughts and prayers go out to one of our own tonight. Tampa Bay’s 10 News Chief Meteorologist Dick Fletcher has suffered a stroke.

Right now, Dick is being cared for at a local hospital.

While we haven’t talked to Dick just yet, we have talked to his wife. She asks everyone to keep Dick in their thoughts and prayers.

Many of you might remember Dick had a stroke in November of 2004. He made a full recovery then and was back at work less than two weeks later. We hope to see him back here at Tampa Bay’s 10 very soon.

When we have more information about Dick’s condition, we will pass it on to you.

If you'd like to leave Dick a message, please leave us a comment below or e-mail us at [email protected].

Things are looking pretty grim. Not good at all, Fletch is one of two [along with Roy Leep] meteorologists that defined weather coverage in this area.

People on FLNewsCenter are throwing around the idea that WTSP might try to get Eric Chilton [who worked as morning meteorologist at WTVT from 1997-2003] from sister WFMY in Greensboro to become chief. He was really popular down here and they do not have any viable in house options. However this speculation is just that, and I wouldn't put much into it until more comes out about Dick.

This is really a sad turn of events for a market that has had its fair share over the past year.

I don't know quite how to react to this. I knew Fletch had a stroke a ways back, and I also had heard that he hadn't made many lifestyle changes. But I'm still shocked. It seems like impossible to lose someone like him who has been one of the more consistant faces of WTSP in the recent past, and someone who helped shape Tampa Bay TV weather in the 80s. Jeez. My heart really goes out.
