Vickie Burns Named Vice President of News & Content

 

for WNBC New York

 

 

New York, NY – (March 31, 2008) Vickie Burns has been named Vice President of News & Content for WNBC, effective immediately. Frank Comerford, President and General Manager of WNBC, made the announcement this morning.In her new role, Burns will lead the station's news initiatives and manage the distribution of that content across multiple platforms. According to Comerford, “Vickie’s energy, creativity and journalistic skills are the perfect mix to ensure WNBC’s leadership in the New York market.”

 

Burns joins WNBC from WRC, the NBC owned station in Washington, DC, where she has served as Vice President of News since September 2003. Prior to joining WRC, she moved up through the ranks at NBC owned station WMAQ in Chicago. Burns started at the station in 1986 as a Line Producer, moved into the role of Special Projects Producer, was promoted to Executive Producer, Assistant News Director, and then News Director in 2001.

 

For a brief period during 1998, Burns went to work as an Executive Producer with ABC owned stationWLS in Chicago before returning to WMAQ in 1998. Burns began her career in 1981 at CBS owned station WBBM in Chicago where she spent five years as desk assistant, news writer and producer.

 

Burns is an Emmy Award winning producer and an active member of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ). She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Broadcasting from Loyola University in Chicago. Burns will relocate to New York City.
