PelicanGuy 117 Posted June 20, 2008 Share Posted June 20, 2008 Sandy Breland has been named Vice President and General Manager of WAFB Television in Baton Rouge. Breland comes from KTVK-TV in Phoenix, Arizona, where she has been Executive News Director. The announcement was made today by Raycom Group Vice President, Marty Edelman. Marty Edelman, Group VP, Raycom Media: "Sandy's multi-market experience and track record in New Orleans and Phoenix makes her one of the best people to lead one of Raycom's most successful and talented group of managers and stations." Ms. Breland returns to her native Louisiana. She served eleven years as Executive News Director of WWL-TV, Belo's CBS affiliate in New Orleans. Prior to KTVK, Sandy was the Executive News Director at WWL-TV, the Belo station in New Orleans. Like WAFB, WWL is one of the strongest CBS affiliates in the country. Breland has been honored with Peabody, DuPont, and Murrow Awards, for her planning and execution of WWL's coverage during Hurricane Katrina. Breland has also been honored with RTNDF's First Amendment Award and the Society of Professional Journalists Sigma Delta Chi Award for public service. Breland began her career in radio, holding several positions at long-time news powerhouse WWL-AM in New Orleans. She has been honored as a YWCA role model and serves as a member of the First Amendment Coalition of Arizona. Breland holds a B.A. in journalism from Loyola University-New Orleans. She has also attended continuing education sessions at the Poynter Institute, as well as Missouri University's Management Program for Broadcast Professionals. Sandy will assume her new position June 30, 2008.
