Guest Former Member 207
I heard this rumor on the radio the other day, and I don't know how factual is it, but at Russert's funeral, Olbermann and Chris Matthews were openly campaigning for the Meet the Press host's position. In fact, it was said if Olbermann doesn't get the spot, he'll leave NBC. In fact, here's the audio clip, and from all places, from one of the Los Angeles' sports radio stations. The show in question does a daily countdown of the day's top sports stories (with a little news and entertainment mixed in). http://www.am570radio.com/cc-common/mediaplayer/player.html?redir=yes&mps=AM570KLAC.php&mid=http://a1135.g.akamai.net/f/1135/18227/1h/cchannel.download.akamai.com/18227/podcast/LOSANGELES-CA/KLAC-AM/080620%20Loose%20Cannons%20Hour%202.mp3?CPROG=PCAST&CPROG=RICHMEDIA&MARKET=LOSANGELES-CA&NG_FORMAT=sports&NG_ID=klac1150am&OR_NEWSFORMAT=Sports&OWNER=&SERVER_NAME=www.am570radio.com&SITE_ID=727&STATION_ID=KLAC-AM&TRACK= Forward to the 14:45 mark Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/3941-tom-brokaw-to-moderate-meet-the-press/#findComment-35989 Share on other sites

WAVY 10 Fan 233
So much for Tom's (virtually non-existent) retirement. Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/3941-tom-brokaw-to-moderate-meet-the-press/#findComment-36022 Share on other sites
TrfRptr 3
Brokaw is the safe replacement plus it gives a nice transition to a new, permanent host. Creates a buffer so the "new guy/gal" isn't the rebound moderator. Sort of like when CBS used Schieffer, safe-move but never permanent.
